Introduction
Witch feats are not random spooky buttons. They are how you turn a patron, familiar, prepared spells, and one-hex-per-turn sequencing into a repeatable table plan. The best Witch feats either improve action economy, add lesson value, protect the familiar, improve spell delivery, or turn daily preparation into practical answers.
Use this with the Witch class guide, Best Witch spells, focus spells, cantrips, companions and familiars, staves and wands, and consumables.

Ratings Legend
| Meaning |
|---|
| Excellent for most Witches or central to a powerful build lane. |
| Strong when the patron, party, or campaign supports it. |
| Playable, but narrow, action-hungry, or more concept than efficiency. |
| Usually a poor use of a class feat compared with lessons, familiar support, or caster tools. |

Best Early Feats
| Feat | Best users | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Cackle | Sustained-spell Witches | Action economy is the prize. If your spell plan includes sustaining, Cackle can let you keep pressure running while still using your turn. |
| Basic Lesson | Almost everyone | More hex access and another familiar-taught spell are class identity. Lesson of Life and Lesson of Elements are especially easy to justify. |
| Cauldron | Crafting and support Witches | Daily consumable value is real power, especially in campaigns with exploration, poison, hazards, attrition, and downtime. |
| Enhanced Familiar | Familiar-forward Witches | Your familiar is spell infrastructure and patron positioning. Extra familiar ability budget helps it do real work. |
| Reach Spell | Fragile back-line casters | More range means safer casting and fewer turns spent walking into consequences. |
| Counterspell | Caster-heavy campaigns | Strong only when enemy spellcasting appears often enough and you can prepare matching answers. |
| Witch's Armaments | Specific melee/natural-weapon concepts | Cool, flavorful, and usually less valuable than making the Witch better at Witch things. |
Lesson Feat Planning
Lessons are the Witch's best feat lane because they add hexes and familiar spells. That matters more than it first appears: a lesson can patch healing, elemental setup, defense, control, utility, and tradition gaps without changing patrons.
| Lesson direction | Best use |
|---|---|
| Lesson of Life | Repeatable recovery pressure and support, especially for parties without abundant healing. |
| Lesson of Elements | Party damage coordination and elemental weakness play. Best when allies can exploit the chosen damage type. |
| Lesson of Protection | Defense against identified creature traits. Better when Recall Knowledge and monster traits matter. |
| Lesson of Dreams | Debuff and concentrate-action pressure. Stronger against casters and complex enemies. |
| Lesson of Vengeance | Deterrence for enemies attacking a key ally. Best when the party has a clear protected target. |
| Lesson of Shadow | Sustained offense and battlefield annoyance, assuming you can keep the target relevant. |
| Lesson of Snow | Concealment, cold pressure, and messy-map value. |
| Lesson of Mischief | Excellent in intrigue and infiltration; less important in straight dungeon combat. |
| Lesson of Renewal | Strong only when afflictions, doomed, drained, or similar pressures show up often. |
| Lesson of Death | Dramatic, but save and matchup dependent. |
Greater Lesson and Major Lesson are usually good picks because the Witch's feat budget should widen the hex and spell plan. Skipping every lesson is a warning sign unless the build has a very specific replacement engine.
Cobyslarni Lessons And Pactbinder Choices
Cobyslarni adds two uncommon greater lessons that reward preparation more sharply than the broad default lessons. Pick Lesson of Memory when the party can identify a dangerous action, spell, or monster ability before the fight turns on it. Its hex taxes a known repeated ability, so it loses much of its appeal when you can name only a basic action that any creature might take.
Lesson of Vows is the social counterpart. It requires proof that the target tried to deceive or hide from you or an ally, then makes a later confrontation costly for that liar. It is excellent for a campaign built around investigations, rivals, and named antagonists. It has almost no value as a blind combat pick. Both choices compete for the same Greater Lesson slot, so take the one your campaign can reliably set up.
| Rival Academies option | Best fit | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Lesson of Memory | Cobyslarni Witch with strong Recall Knowledge support and recurring foes. | Choose it after the group consistently identifies enemy abilities. Cackle becomes more valuable when your turn already includes sustained hex pressure. |
| Lesson of Vows | Intrigue, investigation, and a campaign with repeat antagonists. | Choose it when the trigger will occur at your table. A dungeon-only game may never hand you the required prior deception or stealth attempt. |
| Enhanced Familiar or Incredible Familiar | Calligraphy Wyrm or Mockingfey plans. | Their required familiar abilities make extra familiar capacity useful, but it does not replace the access requirement or turn the familiar into a disposable combatant. |
| Pact of Huldra's Renewal | Demon-facing, nature-protecting campaign. | This is a Pactbinder archetype feat, not a Witch feat. The plant-magic benefit is attractive only if its anti-demon and environmental obligations suit the character. |
| Ouroboric Pact | Occult pact specialist with master Occultism and several Pactbinder goals. | The occasional skill-check boost is narrow, and the retraining restriction makes this a long-term commitment. |
| Pact of the Nightblossom | Story-heavy campaign where daily advice matters. | Its dream protection and guidance come with an ongoing information bargain. Ask whether that cost makes an interesting character choice before spending the archetype feat. |
| Later Pactbinder choices | Travel, undead, mobility, research, or high-level control specialists. | Crossroads, Death Hunter, Fey Paths, Rune Dragon, and Living Pact each solve a focused problem while imposing a distinct promise or risk. Read the whole bargain before committing. |

Hot Take: Lesson of Memory beats a flashy generic hex only when your table uncovers the enemy's important action before combat. That is a table-information reward, not a damage upgrade.
Familiar Feat Planning
| Feat or choice | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Enhanced Familiar | Extra familiar ability choices make the familiar more useful as scout, support piece, and patron-positioning tool. |
| Incredible Familiar | Strong if the familiar solves real problems every session. Overkill if it mostly hides. |
| Patron's Puppet | Free-action familiar command at turn start is excellent when the familiar has to move, interact, scout, or set patron effects. |
| Patron's Presence | Makes familiar positioning more aggressive and meaningful later. Better for players who already track the familiar well. |
| Phase Familiar | Not always selected as a feat in the same way, but it is the familiar survival tool Witches should remember exists. |
The familiar mistake is treating it as invincible because it comes back. Losing it in a fight can still disrupt prepared casting logistics, patron positioning, and turn plans.
Mid-Level Feat Logic
| Feat | Best users | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Greater Lesson | Most Witches | Expands your practical spell and hex menu. Pick the lesson that solves repeated table problems. |
| Steady Spellcasting | Harassed casters | Helps when enemies hit you during manipulate actions. More valuable in cramped maps and enemy-rush campaigns. |
| Rites of Convocation | Summon-focused Witches | Better when summons have a clear role: blocking, flanking, utility, or buying time. Pair with summoned creatures. |
| Incredible Familiar | Familiar specialists | Good when the familiar is not just flavor. |
| Ceremonial Knife | Wand/item enthusiasts | Flavorful extra item rhythm, but it needs prepared-spell and equipment support. |
High-Level Feat Logic
| Feat | Best users | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Major Lesson | Most Witches | More high-impact lesson power is usually better than another narrow trick. |
| Quickened Casting | Any caster with decisive turns | Lets one key turn move faster. It is not a daily default, but it can decide fights. |
| Reflect Spell | Counterspell builds | Strong if enemy casters are common and you already built for countermagic. Weak if not. |
| Effortless Concentration | Sustained-spell Witches | Premium action economy when your spell plan includes sustained effects. |
| Split Hex | Offensive hex builds | Better if your hex plan regularly has multiple good targets. |
| Patron's Claim | Familiar-centered high-level builds | A dramatic payoff when familiar positioning is already part of your play. |
| Hex Master | Hex-first Witches | Breaking normal hex limitations is the high-level class fantasy. |
| Patron's Truth | Top-rank spell pressure | Extra high-rank casting is never a joke. |
Patron-Specific Feat Pressure
| Patron | Feat advice |
|---|---|
| The Resentment | Prioritize lessons, Cackle, familiar positioning, and condition support. Pair with conditions and allies who apply timed penalties. |
| Spinner of Threads | Favor support feats, familiar safety, and reaction-style timing. This patron likes exact failures and clutch reversals. |
| Faith's Flamekeeper | Cauldron, Medicine support, divine spell coverage, and defensive familiar play all fit. |
| The Inscribed One | Lean into Arcana, Recall Knowledge, counter-magic, and familiar utility. |
| Silence in Snow | Value terrain, movement denial, cold pressure, and map-aware feats. |
| Starless Shadow | Pick stealth, darkness, fear, and familiar-positioning support if the table uses lighting and concealment. |
| Wilding Steward | Nature, exploration, animal/plant/fungus matchups, and familiar senses matter most. |
| Unseen Broker | If using Dark Archive, social pressure, bargains, and familiar off-guard support rise. |
Equipment That Changes Feat Value
| Gear | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Staves and wands | Stretch prepared casting and make Ceremonial Knife-style item play more attractive. |
| Scrolls | Teach the familiar spells and cover niche needs without spending daily slots. |
| Consumables | Make Cauldron and Crafting stronger. |
| Explorer's clothing with runes | You are fragile and unarmored. Defensive item progression matters. |
| Skill tools | Intelligence lets you cover Arcana, Occultism, Nature, Religion, Crafting, and Medicine. Tools make those checks stick. |
GM And Monster Context
Witch feats get better when the GM makes information, familiar positioning, and attrition matter. GM Core encounter pacing affects Cauldron and consumables. Monster Core traits and saves affect lessons, hexes, and tradition choice. Hazards, social encounters, and environment all reward Witches who prepared more than one answer.
Do not constantly snipe the familiar just because it matters. Threaten it when enemies have a reason, signal the danger, and let the Witch's defensive choices count.
Common Mistakes
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Taking no lessons | Lessons are one of your best spell and hex expansion tools. Skip them only with a clear reason. |
| Forgetting one hex per turn | Build a sequence, not a list of hexes you wish could all happen together. |
| Ignoring the familiar | The familiar is class infrastructure. Position it, protect it, and use it. |
| Overbuilding Witch's Armaments | Weapon Witch is a concept build, not the default. |
| Taking Counterspell at a no-caster table | Countermagic needs repeated enemy spellcasting to justify the feat lane. |
