The short answer

The Pathfinder 2e Remastered Druid is a Wisdom-based prepared primal caster from Player Core whose druidic order grants a skill, class feat, and focus spell, shaping paths such as animal companion, plant support, storm magic, or Untamed Form. It rewards daily spell preparation and a focused plan for its order, terrain tools, anathema, and Shield Block.

Introduction

This PF2e class guide covers the remastered Druid as a practical table character, not a nature-themed spell list with sandals. The Druid is a prepared primal caster with 8 HP per level, Wisdom as its key attribute, Shield Block at 1st level, a druidic order, Wildsong, and an anathema structure that asks the player to care about the natural world in play.

A storm Druid drives a horned mountain predator away from companions crossing a broken alpine bridge.

The Druid's strength is range. You can heal, blast, control terrain, scout through nature skills, support an animal companion, or turn yourself into a battle form. The class's weakness is also range: if you try to do all of that at once, you build a druid-shaped drawer full of loose knives.

Use this with the Druid feat guide, Primal spell guide, best Druid spells, focus spell guide, Nature guide, Survival guide, companions and familiars guide, and equipment guide.

Disclaimer

This is a ranking and build guide, not a replacement for Player Core, Player Core 2, GM Core, Monster Core, or Howl of the Wild. It summarizes and compares options without reproducing full class tables, feat text, spell text, animal companion statistics, battle form stat blocks, treasure tables, hazards, or creature stat blocks.

Ratings assume a standard Remaster campaign where terrain, travel, encounter objectives, creature traits, treasure pacing, and daily preparation matter. If your table runs every fight in an empty square room, the Druid is still good, but the class loses many of the tools that make it distinctive.

●Excellent default. You need a reason not to consider it.
●Strong. Works well when it supports your build.
●Playable, but asks for table support or a focused plan.
●Avoid unless the campaign is specifically built for it.

Druid Class Feature Ratings

FeatureWhy
Primal prepared spellcasting ●The primal list covers healing, elemental damage, movement, terrain, forms, and nature problem solving. Prepared casting lets you change loadout when the campaign gives you clues.
Druidic order ●Your order gives the class its first real direction: companion, familiar, storm caster, or shapeshifter. Pick this before daydreaming about level 14 feats.
Focus spells ●Order spells scale automatically and refuel through Refocus. Druids can turn focus spells into a real encounter routine instead of rationing every good button.
Shield Block ●This is easy to underrate. Druids are not front-line tanks by default, but a raised shield plus Shield Block can save the caster who got found by a clawed thing with opinions.
Nature skill ●Recall Knowledge, wilderness problem solving, animal and plant scenes, and many campaign hooks all pass through Nature. You are expected to be good at this.
Wildsong and anathema ●Great identity, real roleplay pressure. It is a feature when the table cares about vows; it is bookkeeping if nobody does.
Weapon proficiency ●Simple weapons and unarmed attacks are enough for backup plans. They are not a reason to pretend you are a Fighter.
Medium armor ●Helpful durability for a full caster, especially before your defensive spell and item package comes together.

Druid Order Rankings

RankOrderBest For
1Storm ●The cleanest default caster Druid. Tempest Surge, weather resilience, flight support, and electricity spellshape feats make Storm reliable at many tables.
2Animal ●The best board-control order when you want another body, scouting help, flanking pressure, and companion support. It demands actions and feat investment.
3Untamed ●The Wild Shape-style path. Excellent when built deliberately with Strength, Athletics, form feats, and durability. Mediocre when treated as a spare tire.
4Leaf ●A strong support and exploration order with a leshy familiar, healing produce, plant empathy, plant mobility, and later plant-form tools. Less explosive than Storm or Animal.

Storm Order

Storm is the easiest order to recommend because it keeps you doing Druid things from a safe distance. Player Core gives it Acrobatics, Storm Born, and Tempest Surge. That package points at a ranged caster who cares about air, electricity, weather, flight, and battlefield disruption.

The hidden value is consistency. Weather often penalizes ranged attacks and perception, but Storm Born lets you ignore several of those problems for your targeted spells and Perception. Later feats such as Storm Retribution, Wind Caller, Thunderclap Spell, Uplifting Winds, and Invoke Disaster build naturally toward a mobile storm mage. This order does not need the GM to approve a companion mount or adjudicate constant animal logistics. You show up, throw lightning, ride wind, and make the map worse for enemies.

Hot take: Storm is the best first Druid for most players. Not the flashiest fantasy, not the cuddliest, but the least likely to become homework.

Animal Order

Animal order starts with Athletics, Animal Companion, and Heal Animal. That is a real package: a body on the field, a built-in way to patch that body, and a skill that supports grabs, trips, climbs, shoves, and physical wilderness play.

The cost is action economy. Animal companions are minions, and commanding them is usually part of your turn. Player Core's Mature Animal Companion improves this by letting the companion act once even when you do not Command it, but you still need to build with that cadence in mind. Animal order is strongest when your party can exploit flanking, space control, scouting, and Support benefits. It is weakest when the player wants to cast a 2-action spell every round and also have the companion behave like a second PC for free.

Hot take: Animal Druid is not "Druid plus pet." It is a two-body tactical class with a spell list attached. That is better and more demanding.

Untamed Order

Untamed order starts with Intimidation, Untamed Form, and Untamed Shift. This is the remastered home for old Wild Shape-style play. Player Core starts it with pest and animal form access through Untamed Form, then feats expand the list into humanoid, insect, aerial, elemental, plant, dragon, monstrosity, and capstone shapes.

Untamed is at its best when you know why you are transforming. Are you entering melee because the party needs another bruiser? Are you using a form for mobility, senses, reach, or durability? Are you building toward Soaring Shape, Elemental Shape, Plant Shape, or Dragon Shape? Howl of the Wild adds more morph and polymorph support for untamed order characters, including reactive and offensive transformation feats and additional animal form options. That makes Untamed more attractive, but it also makes lazy builds more obvious.

Hot take: Untamed Form is not a caster panic button. If you only remember it when an ogre is already chewing your robe, you built the slowest emergency exit in the forest.

Leaf Order

Leaf order starts with Diplomacy, Leshy Familiar, and Cornucopia. It is the Druid order for players who want healing, plant magic, familiars, wilderness restoration, and gentle control rather than constant lightning or tooth math.

The leshy familiar matters because familiar abilities can support scouting, spell delivery-style utility, and daily flexibility. Leaf feats build into plant movement, familiar upgrades, self-defense, plant forms, and major area denial through Impaling Briars. Leaf is not weak; it is subtler. It needs a player who enjoys setup, utility, and the satisfaction of solving a problem before initiative makes everyone noisy.

Hot take: Leaf Druid is the order people underrate because it does not scream. Then it quietly wins the exploration day and makes the GM describe every patch of moss like it has legal standing.

Best Attribute Priorities

AttributeNotes
Wisdom ●Your spell DC, spell attack, Nature, Medicine, and class identity all want this high. Start here.
Constitution ●You are a caster who may stand near terrain hazards, area effects, and angry monsters. HP matters.
Dexterity ●Helps AC, Reflex, initiative-adjacent play, and ranged safety. Storm Druids especially like it.
Strength ●Important for Untamed and some Animal builds. Less important for pure casters.
Intelligence ●More trained skills are useful, but the class already has a lot to invest in.
Charisma ●Good for Leaf Diplomacy, animal or community scenes, and Intimidation on Untamed. Usually secondary.

Best Ancestries And Heritages

Use this with the ancestry guide hub, heritage guide, and versatile heritage guide. Druid ancestry picks are less about raw damage and more about survivability, senses, movement, Wisdom-friendly skills, primal flavor, and whether your table will actually support the environment your character was built for.

Ancestry or HeritageBest Druid Fit
Leshy ●The cleanest plant-and-primal identity. Leaf Druids especially love the familiar, plant, healing, and nature themes.
Dwarf ●Durable Wisdom caster chassis with excellent poison, fire, stone, and survival angles. Great for Storm, Leaf, and Untamed.
Human ●Flexible ancestry feat access and easy build correction. Strong for any order that wants the feat plan online without drama.
Gnome ●Fey, primal, familiar, sensory, and strange-magic flavor. Very good for Leaf and Storm Druids.
Elf ●Speed, senses, and nature-facing heritages help casters and scouts, but durability needs attention.
Halfling ●Strong for cautious support Druids and mount-adjacent stories if the table handles companion logistics well.
Goblin ●Fire, survival, weird bodies, and fearless table energy can fit Storm or Untamed. The Druidic council may sigh, but the mechanics work.
Orc ●Great durability and wilderness grit. Strong for Untamed and Animal Druids that expect to stand near danger.
Awakened Animal ●Extremely flavorful for nature campaigns, but table expectations around body plan, gear, social scenes, and environment must be clear.
Aquatic ancestries ●Athamaru, Merfolk, and similar options can be excellent in water campaigns and awkward elsewhere. Confirm the GM environment plan first.
Versatile heritages ●Nephilim, changeling, reflection, and other versatile choices can add story and utility without changing the Druid chassis. Make sure the extra theme does not fight your order anathema.

Hot take: Leshy Druid is not "too obvious." Sometimes the obvious pick is obvious because it works.

Backgrounds

Background should support Wisdom, Constitution, Dexterity, Strength for Untamed, or a skill you will actually roll. Player Core backgrounds grant boosts, skill training, Lore, and a skill feat; Player Core 2 adds more grounded and rare options. Use the backgrounds guide for the broader list.

Background DirectionBest Druid Fit
Nomad, scout, guide, hunter, or outrider ●Excellent for Survival, wilderness travel, tracking, and parties that use exploration mode seriously.
Field medic, herbalist, barber, or healer ●Wisdom plus Medicine support saves spell slots and gives the party recovery that does not depend on daily preparation.
Animal handler, farmer, stable hand, or herder ●Best for Animal order and nature-heavy campaigns where Command an Animal, animals, and settlements all matter.
Hermit, pilgrim, acolyte, or natural mystic ●Strong roleplay fit for Druids who treat their order like a vow instead of a costume.
Guard, warrior, laborer, or miner ●Good for Untamed Druids that want Strength, Athletics, durability, and practical adventuring grit.
Scholar, herbal scholar, or naturalist ●Good for Nature, Lore, Learn a Spell, rituals, and campaigns that reward knowing what the monster, plant, hazard, or weather is doing.
Noble, emissary, or courtier ●Works for Leaf diplomats and social wilderness mediators, but it needs campaign support.
Haunted, feybound, cursed, or other rare backgrounds ●Excellent story fuel if the GM wants it. Mostly decorative if the campaign never pays off the premise.

Primal Spell Strategy

The primal list is not a generic wizard list painted green. It is very good at physical reality: life, weather, elements, bodies, animals, plants, movement, and terrain. It is weaker at social manipulation, illusions, mind games, and occult-style weirdness unless a feat or other option expands your access.

Spell RoleDruid Use
Healing and recovery ●Heal and other vitality tools let the Druid cover emergency healing without becoming only a healer.
Elemental damage ●Fire, cold, electricity, sonic, earth, water, air, metal, and wood effects let you target creature weaknesses and terrain.
Terrain control ●Difficult terrain, plant effects, weather effects, walls, and area denial punish enemies who need clean lines and clean movement.
Mobility and exploration ●Fly, climb, swim, speed, breathing, forms, and environmental answers turn the Druid into a travel problem solver.
Summoning ●Summon animal, summon plant or fungus, and summon elemental gain value when the player knows what the summon is for. Random summoning is how spell slots become decorative smoke.
Battle forms ●Strong for Untamed and backup utility. Less impressive for pure casters who ignore physical stats and positioning.
Mental and social magic ●Not the primal list's best lane. Use skills, allies, archetypes, or specific feats if the campaign needs this.

Spell Preparation by Day Type

Day TypePrepare For
Dungeon crawlHealing, area damage, anti-swarm tools, light or detection, movement answers, and one escape spell.
Wilderness travelWeather, navigation, food or survival support, animal or plant communication, movement modes, and hazard answers.
Urban mysteryDetection, healing, utility, one flexible combat package, and more skill support. Do not pretend every city has convenient trees.
Boss huntSave-target diversity, resistance answers, mobility, defensive buffs, and action-efficient focus spell turns.

Animal Companion Play

Animal order and companion archetypes are strongest when you know what the companion contributes besides damage.

Companion JobWhy It Matters
Flanking partner ●Melee allies love reliable off-guard setups. Side by Side later makes this even cleaner.
Space control ●A companion occupies squares, blocks lanes, threatens weak enemies, and changes monster movement choices.
Scouting ●Animals can bring senses, movement, and narrative access the party might lack.
Support action engine ●Many companions become more interesting when their Support benefit is part of the plan.
Damage carry ●It can contribute damage, but a companion that receives no actions, feats, or protection will fall behind.

Player Core companion feats such as Mature Animal Companion, Incredible Companion, Specialized Companion, Instinctive Support, Primal Howl, and Side by Side reward investment. Howl of the Wild adds more animal and beast material for campaigns that want the wild side of Pathfinder to be more than a shopping list of horses.

The key question is simple: what do you do on a turn where you need to cast a 2-action spell and Command the companion? If the answer is "that is exactly my plan," great. If the answer is "wait, I have to command it?" reread the companion rules before your first session.

Untamed Form Play

Untamed Form lets you polymorph through a focus spell and expands through feats. Player Core starts the path with Untamed Form and Untamed Shift, then adds Form Control, Insect Shape, Ferocious Shape, Soaring Shape, Elemental Shape, Plant Shape, Dragon Shape, Reactive Transformation, Monstrosity Shape, Perfect Form Control, and True Shapeshifter.

Untamed UseNotes
Planned melee stance ●Best when Strength, Athletics, AC planning, and form feats are part of the build.
Mobility form ●Flight, climb, swim, burrow, and size changes can solve encounters without winning DPR spreadsheets.
Emergency defense ●Useful, but only if you have actions, space, and the right form available.
Full-time striker replacement ●You are still a full caster. If the table wanted a pure martial, the Fighter is down the hall sharpening something.

Howl of the Wild is especially relevant here. Its morph and polymorph feats support animal instinct Barbarians and Untamed Druids, and it adds more animal form options. Use it when the campaign wants broader transformation play. Verify with the GM which options are allowed, especially if the group is limiting books by source.

Best Skills and Skill Feats

SkillBest Druid Use
Nature ●Your default knowledge, creature, environment, and natural-world skill. Push it high.
Medicine ●Wisdom makes this efficient, and it saves spell slots. A Druid who can patch the party between fights is doing grown-up caster work.
Survival ●Tracking, subsisting, navigation, and wilderness procedures matter more when the GM uses GM Core exploration and environment rules.
Athletics ●Excellent for Animal and Untamed builds that shove, trip, climb, swim, or wrestle with the map.
Diplomacy ●Leaf order starts here, and it helps when animals, communities, and environmental conflicts become social scenes.
Acrobatics ●Storm order starts here. Good for mobility, balance, and staying alive in bad terrain.
Crafting ●Useful for repairs, magic item work, and wilderness utility, but usually behind Nature and Medicine.
Intimidation ●Untamed starts here and can use it well. It is not mandatory for every Druid.

Skill feat picks should follow the campaign. In a survival-heavy game, invest in Survival. In a dungeon campaign, Medicine and Athletics usually do more work. In a political wilderness campaign, Diplomacy plus Nature can be the actual main character while the Barbarian waits patiently to solve a door.

Best Druid Feat Paths

PathKey FeatsWhy
Storm caster ●Widen Spell, Storm Retribution, Wind Caller, Thunderclap Spell, Primal Focus, Invoke DisasterTurns focus spells, electricity, air, flight, and weather into a coherent combat package.
Animal companion ●Mature Animal Companion, Instinctive Support, Incredible Companion, Side by Side, Specialized Companion, Primal HowlKeeps the companion relevant and turns it into a tactical partner instead of a mascot with HP.
Untamed shapeshifter ●Form Control, Insect Shape, Ferocious Shape, Soaring Shape, Elemental Shape, Plant Shape, Dragon Shape, Monstrosity ShapeVery strong when the character is built to enter melee, use forms, and survive the attention that follows.
Leaf support ●Enhanced Familiar, Forest Passage, Leshy Familiar Secrets, Grown of Oak, Floral Restoration, Plant Shape, Impaling BriarsExcellent exploration and support path with real high-level area control.
Summoner druid ●Call of the Wild, Elemental Summons, Primal Summons, Effortless ConcentrationGood when the player knows the summon roster and the GM runs minions cleanly. Slow when nobody prepared.
Generic caster ●Reach Spell, Widen Spell, Steady Spellcasting, Overwhelming Energy, Primal Aegis, Ley Line ConduitReliable picks that help many Druids without locking into one order.

Read the full Druid feat guide before locking in the build. Druid feats are less about isolated winners and more about deciding whether your second action belongs to a spellshape, a companion, a form, a shield, or movement.

Best Equipment

GearWhy
Shield ●You get Shield Block. Use it. A caster who can reduce a hit without spending spell slots should not sneer at lumber.
Light or medium armor ●Keep AC current. Untamed and Animal Druids especially cannot afford fantasy pajamas.
Healer's tools ●Mandatory if you invest in Medicine. They convert Wisdom into spell-slot conservation.
Staff ●A primal staff extends your daily spell plan and keeps utility available after prepared slots get messy.
Wands ●Best for repeatable utility, healing support, movement, protection, or spells you want once per day without preparing daily.
Scrolls ●Excellent for niche environmental answers, condition removal, odd movement needs, and one-off travel problems.
Armor runes and resilient runes ●GM Core treasure assumptions expect defensive item progression. Do not fall behind because you spent everything on dramatic twigs.
Companion gear ●Animal builds should budget for the companion's survivability and table logistics. Gear support matters when the companion is part of combat.
Adventuring gear ●Rope, climbing kits, repair tools, survival tools, light, containers, and camping basics still matter. Magic is not a personality-proof backpack.
Verdant Weapon support ●Good if you actually build around Verdant Weapon and its later support. Skip it if you are not attacking.

Armor and Shields

Player Core Druids are trained in light armor, medium armor, unarmored defense, and Shield Block. That makes defense a real part of the chassis. Keep your armor runes current, carry a shield you are willing to block with, and remember that Raise a Shield competes with Command an Animal, movement, and spellcasting.

Because Druids have nature-facing anathema and strong identity around natural materials, talk with the GM before building around metal-heavy equipment. The safest default is simple: use armor and shields that fit the campaign's Druid expectations, then spend the table's argument budget on tactics instead of metallurgy court.

Staves, Wands, and Scrolls

Druid preparation is powerful but imperfect. Staves, wands, and scrolls are how you keep the prepared caster from becoming "I did not prep that" with a beard.

Use staves for spells you expect to cast often, wands for daily utility, and scrolls for rare answers. Terrain, weather, flight, water, climbing, condition relief, communication with nature, emergency healing, and anti-swarm tools are all good consumable categories. The staves and wands guide and consumables guide are worth reading before spending permanent treasure.

Best Archetypes

Archetype DirectionBest Fit
Beastmaster-style companion support ●Animal Druids or non-Animal Druids who want a stronger companion identity. Check Player Core 2 availability at the table.
Medic ●Wisdom caster plus Medicine support is clean, practical, and useful in almost every campaign.
Herbalist or nature support ●Fits wilderness campaigns and keeps the Druid useful when the party needs practical healing and survival options.
Familiar-focused options ●Best for Leaf Druids who want the leshy familiar to matter every adventuring day.
Scout or wilderness archetypes ●Strong when GM Core travel, exploration, and terrain procedures actually show up.
Martial archetypes ●Untamed can use some martial support, but do not dilute Wisdom casting unless the build has a clear job.
Free Archetype expansion ●Excellent in campaigns using the GM Core variant. Do not assume it exists.

Start with the archetypes guide and Free Archetype guide. Archetypes should solve a specific problem: better healing, better companion support, better scouting, stronger wilderness identity, or a sharper melee form plan.

Example Builds

Storm Caster Druid

ChoiceRecommendation
OrderStorm
AttributesWisdom, Dexterity, Constitution
SkillsNature, Acrobatics, Medicine, Survival
FeatsWiden Spell, Storm Retribution, Wind Caller, Primal Focus, Invoke Disaster
GearShield, armor runes, primal staff, utility wands, movement and healing scrolls
Party roleRanged elemental caster, battlefield disruptor, healer, weather specialist

This is the cleanest default Druid. You focus on primal spells, Tempest Surge, weather play, flight, and enough Medicine to stop spending every spell slot on recovery.

Animal Companion Controller

ChoiceRecommendation
OrderAnimal
AttributesWisdom, Constitution, Dexterity, then Strength
SkillsNature, Athletics, Medicine, Survival
FeatsMature Animal Companion, Instinctive Support, Incredible Companion, Side by Side, Specialized Companion
GearShield, sturdy defensive gear, companion support gear, healing consumables
Party roleBoard control, flanking setup, healing, scouting, flexible casting

This build makes the companion part of the turn plan. If you do not like tracking another creature's positioning, do not choose this because the animal looked cool in the art.

Untamed Form Bruiser

ChoiceRecommendation
OrderUntamed
AttributesWisdom, Strength, Constitution, then Dexterity
SkillsNature, Athletics, Intimidation, Medicine
FeatsForm Control, Insect Shape, Ferocious Shape, Soaring Shape, Elemental Shape, Dragon Shape
GearArmor runes, shield, defensive consumables, scrolls for utility, items that support Athletics and survival
Party roleFlexible caster who can become a melee threat, mobility answer, or terrain problem solver

Untamed is for players who enjoy planning. You are still a full caster, but your forms give you a physical solution when spells are the wrong tool.

Leaf Support Druid

ChoiceRecommendation
OrderLeaf
AttributesWisdom, Constitution, Dexterity, then Charisma
SkillsNature, Diplomacy, Medicine, Survival
FeatsEnhanced Familiar, Forest Passage, Leshy Familiar Secrets, Grown of Oak, Floral Restoration, Plant Shape, Impaling Briars
GearHealer's tools, shield, staff, scrolls, familiar-friendly utility, plant and terrain consumables
Party roleHealer, familiar user, wilderness negotiator, plant controller, exploration anchor

Leaf is less flashy at level 1 and much more satisfying if the campaign actually has ecology, travel, recovery, and natural places worth protecting.

GM Core and Monster Core Notes

GM Core matters for Druids because the class gets better when terrain, weather, travel, exploration activities, hazards, treasure, downtime, and environmental details matter. A Druid in a campaign of blank square rooms is still a full caster, but part of the class fantasy has been locked outside.

Table ElementDruid Impact
Terrain and weatherStorm, Leaf, Survival, movement spells, and plant effects all become more meaningful.
HazardsNature, Survival, Medicine, movement magic, and elemental resistance tools give the Druid real jobs outside damage.
Treasure pacingDruids still need armor runes, defensive items, caster items, scrolls, wands, staves, and sometimes companion gear.
Rarity and accessHowl of the Wild options, unusual companions, and uncommon nature options should be cleared with the GM early.
DowntimeRetraining, crafting, tending wilderness, learning spells, and sourcing gear all fit Druid campaigns naturally.

Monster Core matters because primal casters care about traits, terrain, movement modes, and defenses. The animal, beast, plant, fungus, elemental, swarm, aquatic, flying, burrowing, incorporeal, undead, holy, unholy, resistance, immunity, and weakness tags all change your best answer.

Monster PatternDruid Answer
SwarmsArea spells and splash-style answers matter because swarms often punish single-target plans.
FlyersStorm magic, flight, range, forced movement, and terrain control keep flying enemies from owning the map.
Aquatic enemiesSwim, water breathing, aquatic forms, and water-aware preparation keep the Druid ahead of the party's boots.
ElementalsIdentify traits and resistances before throwing your favorite damage type into a wall of immunity.
UndeadVitality healing and creature traits matter. Know when healing magic hurts enemies and when it only helps allies.
Plant and fungus creaturesLeaf and Nature themes shine, but do not assume every plant monster is here for a peaceful committee meeting.

Hot Takes

Storm is the best default Druid order because it asks the least system mastery and still feels powerful.

Animal companion Druids are secretly action-economy characters. If that sounds boring, you may not actually want Animal order.

Untamed Druids should stop apologizing for being complicated. Shapeshifting is complicated. That is the fun part.

Leaf Druid is better than its reputation, but only if the campaign lets plants, healing, familiars, and travel matter. In a bare-room combat treadmill, Leaf gets robbed.

The Druid's best equipment is not "a cool staff and vibes." It is AC progression, shield discipline, healer's tools, scrolls, wands, and enough practical gear to make the wilderness afraid of your packing list.
