Introduction
Sorcerer feats should make spontaneous casting feel broad instead of cramped. The class already casts quickly at the table. The hard part is choosing permanent spells, signature spells, bloodline tools, and items that keep you useful when the encounter is not tailor-made for your favorite damage type.
This guide uses the remastered Sorcerer from Player Core 2, then adds Player Core spellcasting context, GM Core encounter pressure, Monster Core target logic, and Treasure Vault Remaster gear context. Use it with Sorcerer spells, spell guides, focus spells, staves and wands, consumables, and skill feats.

Ratings Legend
| Meaning |
|---|
| Broadly excellent, build-defining, or solves Sorcerer's main pressure |
| Strong when the bloodline, tradition, or campaign supports it |
| Useful but narrow, late, or table-dependent |
| Usually too action-hungry, redundant, or off-plan |
Prerequisite And Access Warnings
Sorcerer feat choices look simple until the permanent choices start stacking up. Your bloodline sets tradition, skills, granted spells, blood magic, and focus spell pressure. Your repertoire decides what problems you can solve every day. Your items decide whether narrow answers live on the character sheet or in a scroll case where they belong.
| Warning | What To Check | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Tradition gate | Does the feat require arcane, divine, occult, or primal casting? | Evolution feats and spell access depend on your bloodline tradition. A strong arcane plan does not automatically transfer to divine. |
| Bloodline gate | Does the feat improve your actual blood magic, granted spells, or focus spell? | Bloodline feats are not automatically good because they say "bloodline" on the tin. |
| Repertoire gate | Does the feat patch a spell-known problem or add another spell you will rarely cast? | Sorcerer choices are sticky. Rare answers usually belong on scrolls and consumables. |
| Signature spell gate | Which spells need heightening flexibility? | Signature Spell Expansion is only as good as the spells you choose to heighten repeatedly. |
| Focus gate | Do you have enough focus spells worth casting and time to Refocus? | Bloodline Focus is much stronger after the focus spell package is doing real work. |
| Targeting gate | Can your spell list attack AC, Fortitude, Reflex, and Will? | Monster Core saves and traits punish one-note spell lists. |
| Damage gate | Do your main damage spells run into resistance, immunity, or common creature traits? | Blasters need alternate damage types, Overwhelming Energy, or non-damage turns. |
| Defense gate | Are range, movement, armor runes, saves, and emergency items covered? | Six HP per level means "I will stand there and cast" is not a complete defensive strategy. |
| Weapon gate | Is a weapon feat supported by archetype, actions, ability scores, and gear? | Most Sorcerers should not pay class feats to become a disappointing martial. |
The practical test is blunt: does this feat make your limited repertoire broader, your best spell turns safer, or your bloodline engine more repeatable? If not, check whether an item or skill feat solves the same problem cheaper.

Hot Take: Sorcerer is not the easy caster. It makes its hardest choices before initiative: every feat must either protect the repertoire, extend a repeatable bloodline turn, or solve a casting constraint the spell list cannot absorb.
Prerequisite Checklist By Sorcerer Plan
Use this before taking a class feat. Sorcerer can look forgiving because spontaneous casting is fast at the table, but the build math is very capable of remembering your mistakes.
| Sorcerer Plan | Required Checks | Best Supporting Guides |
|---|---|---|
| Imperial generalist | Arcane tradition, Arcane Evolution value, signature spell choices, anti-magic need | Arcane Spells, Sorcerer Spells, Arcana |
| Elemental blaster | Damage types, resistance answers, Reflex/Fortitude targeting, safe area placement | Combat Spells, Creature Traits, Persistent Damage |
| Divine support | Divine Evolution choices, healing signature spells, condition answers, Medicine backup | Divine Spells, Medicine, Conditions |
| Occult debuffer | Will-save pressure, mental immunity backup, range, Recall Knowledge support | Occult Spells, Occultism, Stat Blocks |
| Draconic icon | Bloodline focus spell value, resistance, movement, damage type, no accidental melee plan | Focus Spells, Armor, Movement Actions |
| Social Sorcerer | Charisma skill investment, campaign social scenes, spell support, non-combat utility | Diplomacy, Deception, Social Encounters |
Level 1-2 Feats
| Feat | Best users | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Reach Spell | Almost every Sorcerer | Range is defense. It also makes touch and short-range spells less suicidal. |
| Cantrip Expansion | Low-level Sorcerers with narrow cantrip coverage | Helpful early if your bloodline and tradition leave you without enough save, damage, or utility coverage. |
| Propelling Sorcery | Blood-magic planners, mobile casters | Movement tied to blood magic can rescue positioning and keep fragile Sorcerers out of bad squares. |
| Familiar | Utility casters | Useful if you want scouting, item handling, extra exploration utility, or familiar abilities. Not mandatory. |
| Widen Spell or similar area support | Area casters | Good when maps support it. Worse when fights are cramped and allies stand exactly where your spell wants to be. |
| Bespell Strikes | Very narrow gish builds | Usually a trap. If your best turn is weapon Striking after casting, something unusual must be carrying the build. |
Level 4-6 Feats
| Feat | Best users | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Arcane Evolution | Imperial and arcane Draconic | Arcane Sorcerers want more spell access. This attacks repertoire pressure directly. |
| Divine Evolution | Angelic, Demonic, Diabolic, Undead, divine Draconic | Divine Sorcerers need flexibility for healing, protection, condition answers, and spirit damage. |
| Occult Evolution | Aberrant, Hag, occult Draconic | Occult Sorcerers benefit from more answers when mental effects, Will saves, and social magic are not enough. |
| Primal Evolution | Elemental, Fey, primal Draconic | Primal Sorcerers want more room for healing, elements, terrain, and utility. |
| Advanced Bloodline | Bloodlines with useful advanced focus spells | Excellent when your bloodline's next focus spell supports your repeated turn. Skip it if the spell is just thematic furniture. |
| Safeguard Spell | Area casters | Makes explosive spell plans easier to use around allies. This is how you remain invited to parties. |
| Steady Spellcasting | Casters threatened by reactions | Helps when enemies disrupt spellcasting. More valuable in tight maps and caster-hunting encounters. |
Level 8-12 Feats
| Feat | Best users | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Bloodline Resistance | Any Sorcerer facing magical pressure | Broad defensive value tied to bloodline identity. Rarely flashy, rarely wrong. |
| Crossblooded Evolution | Blood-magic planners | Adds another blood magic option. Strong when you know what trigger and effect your turn actually wants. |
| Overwhelming Energy | Elemental and damage Sorcerers | Resistance is one of the cleanest ways for Monster Core enemies to embarrass blasters. This helps. |
| Signature Spell Expansion | Every spontaneous caster | More signature flexibility directly solves Sorcerer's permanent-list pressure. |
| Bloodline Focus | Focus-heavy Sorcerers | Better once you have multiple focus spells worth casting. Do not take it just because the word bloodline appears. |
| Quickened Casting | Experienced casters | Excellent when your spell list has enough one-action follow-up or setup value. Easy to waste if your turns are not planned. |
Level 14-20 Feats
| Feat | Best users | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Interweave Dispel | Arcane and anti-magic Sorcerers | Strong in campaigns with enemy buffs, magical hazards, and spellcasters. |
| Blood Ascendancy | Blood magic builds | Better if you built around blood magic all campaign. Less compelling as a random late pick. |
| Greater Mental Evolution | Many Sorcerers | More repertoire across ranks is oxygen for spontaneous casters. |
| Greater Vital Evolution | Divine or healing-heavy Sorcerers | Extra vitality-style support and repertoire pressure relief can be party-defining. |
| Greater Crossblooded Evolution | Bloodline tacticians | Strong if you understand which blood magic options matter. Weak if chosen because "more" sounded good. |
| Echoing Spell | Specific repeat-casting plans | Good when your encounter flow rewards repeated casting. Not universally better than repertoire expansion. |
| Bloodline Perfection | Level 20 Sorcerers | Extra 10th-rank casting is exactly as subtle as a falling cathedral. |
| Bloodline Conduit or Bloodline Mutation | Specialized capstone builds | Powerful if your entire feat plan has aimed at the bloodline engine. |
Bloodline Feat Pressure
| Bloodline | Feat priorities | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Imperial | Arcane Evolution, Signature Spell Expansion, anti-magic, defensive bloodline support | Do not mistake "generalist" for "random list." You still need spell jobs. |
| Elemental | Overwhelming Energy, focus spell support, movement, area safety | Damage resistance and poor save targeting can flatten blasters. |
| Draconic | Advanced Bloodline, Bloodline Resistance, movement, damage typing | Dragon fantasy is strong, but do not overpay for melee tricks. |
| Angelic | Divine Evolution, healing support, Reach Spell, Medicine skill feats | You still need offensive and control spells. Heal is not a full personality. |
| Aberrant | Occult Evolution, Reach Spell, control support, anti-mental backup | Mindless and mental-resistant enemies need backup plans. |
| Hag | Occult Evolution, curse support, social skills, control backup | Great flavor, but Will-heavy plans can run into high-Will enemies. |
| Fey | Primal Evolution, trickery, mobility, social and stealth support | Needs table space for misdirection and social utility. |
| Demonic | Divine Evolution, offensive divine picks, durability, fear support | Stronger when the campaign lets divine magic be aggressive. |
| Diabolic | Divine Evolution, social magic, Deception, command effects | Best in intrigue, contract, and faction-heavy games. |
| Undead | Divine Evolution, harm/void support, undead matchup planning | Party healing expectations can clash with the theme. Talk early. |
Build Paths
Imperial Generalist
Imperial should lean into arcane breadth and repertoire relief. Take Reach Spell early, Arcane Evolution when available, Signature Spell Expansion later, then mix defensive bloodline support and anti-magic tools. The goal is not to know every spell. The goal is to always have a useful answer without turning your repertoire into a junk drawer.
Pair with Arcane spells, Sorcerer spells, Arcana, Society, staves and wands, and scrolls.
Elemental Blaster
Elemental Sorcerer wants clean damage, movement, and resistance answers. Overwhelming Energy rises sharply here because Monster Core resistances are not a thought experiment. Keep one or two non-damage spells in the repertoire so you do not become useless against the exact wrong creature.
Pair with Primal spells, combat spells, persistent damage, creature traits, and movement actions.
Divine Support Sorcerer
Angelic is the cleanest support lane, but divine Sorcerers can be defensive, offensive, or grim depending on bloodline. Divine Evolution and signature healing or harm support matter because the divine list can feel narrow if you spend too many known spells on one job.
Pair with Divine spells, Medicine, conditions, and worn invested items.
Occult Debuffer
Aberrant and Hag Sorcerers want range, save knowledge, and backup options. Occult Evolution helps, but so does learning which enemies are bad targets for mental pressure. This is where Recall Knowledge stops being homework and starts being spell accuracy.
Pair with Occult spells, Occultism, Intimidation, Deception, stat blocks, and save progression.
Skill And General Feat Support
| Support pick | Why Sorcerer cares |
|---|---|
| Skill feats | Charisma makes social skill feats natural, while tradition skills support identification and rituals. |
| General feats | Toughness, survivability, initiative, and defensive basics matter on a 6-HP caster. |
| Medicine | Saves spell slots and helps parties without a dedicated healer. |
| Diplomacy and Deception | Charisma turns social scenes into a real party role. |
| Arcana, Nature, Occultism, Religion | Tradition skills support Identify Magic, rituals, and creature information. |
Equipment That Changes Feat Value
| Gear | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Staves and wands | The best repertoire patch. Put narrow-but-useful spells in items instead of permanent known slots. |
| Consumables | Scrolls, potions, talismans, and emergency answers make limited spell lists feel less brittle. |
| Runes on explorer's clothing | You are unarmored by default. Defensive scaling is not optional. |
| Worn invested items | Boost saves, defenses, skills, movement, and caster comfort. |
| Sanguine pendant | Player Core 2 Sorcerer item that supports bloodline skill and focus spell rhythm. Good when available at the right level. |
| Magic items by level | Helps plan when caster items and defensive items should appear. |
GM Core And Monster Core Context
Sorcerer feat value depends on encounter variety. If enemies always have the same weak save, you can coast. If enemies vary by save, resistance, immunity, terrain, and range, Sorcerer needs Recall Knowledge, spell diversity, evolution feats, signature spell planning, and item support.
GM Core treasure also matters. A Sorcerer without scrolls, wands, staves, or defensive items feels much narrower than intended. These items are not indulgences; they are how spontaneous casting handles edge cases without relearning the whole repertoire.
Use encounter building, treasure by level, creature traits, stat blocks, and conditions when tuning a Sorcerer feat plan.
Common Mistakes
| Mistake | Better choice |
|---|---|
| Taking bloodline feats just because they match the theme | Take them when the focus spell or blood magic effect improves repeated turns. |
| Taking the wrong Evolution feat | Confirm your bloodline tradition and choose the evolution path that actually expands your daily spell jobs. |
| Ignoring Reach Spell | Range is one of the cheapest defensive tools a fragile caster can buy. |
| Choosing too many narrow spells, then blaming the feat list | Use evolution feats, signature spell planning, scrolls, wands, and staves to solve repertoire pressure. |
| Choosing signature spells after the fact | Plan heightening candidates before taking Signature Spell Expansion. |
| Building a blaster without resistance plans | Take Overwhelming Energy, carry alternate damage types, and use Recall Knowledge. |
| Treating Charisma as only spell DC | Social skills can make Sorcerer useful when slots are not the answer. |
| Spending feats on weapon play by accident | Full-caster weapon feats need a real build plan, not vibes and a dagger. |
