Introduction
Rogue feats are not just "more stabbing." They are the machinery that makes stabbing reliable: off-guard access, safe movement, useful skill options, trap answers, poison support, thrown-weapon logistics, and debilitation upgrades. A Rogue with no off-guard plan is a d8 martial asking politely for precision damage. A Rogue with three off-guard plans is a problem with shoes.

Ratings Legend
| Meaning |
|---|
| Core pick, broadly useful, or build-defining |
| Strong, but build or campaign dependent |
| Fine when the table supports it |
| Usually too narrow, redundant, or action-hungry |
Prerequisite And Access Warnings
Rogue feat traps rarely announce themselves. They usually look like a cool trick that quietly assumes the right racket, the right skill proficiency, the right weapon trait, the right enemy type, or a GM who actually uses hazards and infiltration scenes.
| Warning | What To Check | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Racket gate | Does the feat match Thief, Scoundrel, Ruffian, or Mastermind? | A feat that is excellent for Scoundrel can be clunky on Mastermind if the off-guard routine changes. |
| Off-guard gate | Does the feat create, extend, or exploit off-guard reliably? | Sneak attack is not automatic. Build at least two repeatable ways to turn it on. |
| Skill gate | Does the feat need Acrobatics, Deception, Thievery, Athletics, Stealth, or Recall Knowledge skills? | Rogue gets many skill increases, but not enough to be great at every plan at once. |
| Weapon gate | Does your weapon qualify for sneak attack and support the feat's action loop? | Finesse, agile, thrown, ranged, and simple-weapon choices change which feats are actually good. |
| Action gate | Does the feat fit around Stride, Step, Feint, Tumble Through, Strike, Hide, or Draw actions? | Rogue turns are action-tight. Two-action tricks compete with movement and setup. |
| Enemy gate | Does the feat rely on poison, precision damage, fear, mental effects, or concealment rules? | Monster Core enemy traits can turn a strong-looking feat into a sometimes feat. |
| Campaign gate | Does the adventure use locks, traps, scouting, social scenes, chases, or ambushes? | Trap Finder and infiltration feats are excellent when the campaign uses their job. They are sad little museum pieces when it does not. |
| Gear gate | Are runes, thieves' tools, backup weapons, consumables, and skill items on schedule? | Rogue feats often depend on math and tools. Charm does not replace item bonuses. |
The clean Rogue test is this: can you explain how the feat helps you get off-guard, survive the turn, or use a skill in a scene that actually happens? If not, it is probably Orange no matter how stylish it sounds.
Fast Recommendations
| Rogue plan | Best feat priorities | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Thief finesse striker | Tumble Behind, Mobility, Gang Up, Precise Debilitations, defensive reactions | Dexterity damage wants reliable positioning and clean repeat turns. |
| Scoundrel face | Twin Feint or Tumble Behind, Deception support, Dread Striker, Tactical Debilitations, social skill feats | Feint and social skills become combat setup instead of decorative charm. |
| Ruffian bully | Athletics support, Intimidation support, Vicious Debilitations, Dread Striker, durable gear | Strength and fear turn the Rogue into a control striker. |
| Mastermind investigator | Recall Knowledge support, Society and Lore investment, Methodical Debilitations, ranged backup, knowledge skill feats | The build lives or dies by useful information and clean identification. |
| Trap expert | Trap Finder, Delay Trap, Thievery feats, Crafting backup, exploration gear | Great in hazard-heavy games; weaker when the GM never locks anything. |
| Thrown rogue | Strong Arm, Far Throw, Ricochet Stance, Bullseye, rune planning | Real build, but gear logistics matter more than the fantasy implies. |

Hot Take: Rogue feats earn their slots when they create reliable off-guard access or turn exceptional skill progression into a repeated answer. A narrow trick that does neither must solve a recurring campaign problem.
Prerequisite Checklist By Rogue Plan
Use this before spending class feats. Rogue has enough skill volume to make almost anything tempting, which is exactly how you end up with six clever tools and no reliable turn.
| Rogue Plan | Required Checks | Best Supporting Guides |
|---|---|---|
| Thief finesse striker | Finesse or agile weapon, Dexterity plan, Tumble or flank setup, defensive movement | Weapons, Acrobatics, Flanking |
| Scoundrel face | Deception investment, Feint action budget, social-scene frequency, backup off-guard method | Deception, Social Encounters, Conditions |
| Ruffian bully | Strength plan, eligible weapon, Athletics or Intimidation support, armor and durability | Athletics, Intimidation, Armor |
| Mastermind investigator | Recall Knowledge coverage, useful GM answers, ranged backup, monster identification | Society, Lore, Stat Blocks |
| Trap and infiltration Rogue | Thievery proficiency, thieves' tools, exploration procedures, hazard frequency | Thievery, Hazards, Detection And Senses |
| Thrown Rogue | Draw/retrieve plan, rune logistics, range limits, backup melee option | Ranged Weapons, Runes, Three-Action Economy |
Level 1-2 Feats
| Feat | Best users | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tumble Behind | Thief, Scoundrel, mobile melee Rogues | Turns Acrobatics and Tumble Through into off-guard setup for your next attack. One of the cleanest Rogue starts. |
| Twin Feint | Dual-wield Rogues | The second Strike targets an off-guard enemy. Reliable, but it asks for two actions and two weapons. |
| Nimble Dodge | Any melee Rogue | Reaction AC is simple and useful. It competes with later reactions, but early survival is not a moral failure. |
| Trap Finder | Dungeon Rogues, Thievery specialists | Premium when the campaign uses hazards, locks, and exploration pressure. Skip it in arena campaigns. |
| You're Next | Intimidation Rogues | Converts a dropped enemy into fear pressure. Best on Ruffian or Scoundrel builds with Intimidation. |
| Plant Evidence | Social and intrigue Rogues | Very funny in the right campaign. Nearly blank in straightforward monster crawls. |
| Strong Arm | Thrown-weapon Rogues | Useful range help for thrown builds. Mostly irrelevant for melee or bow plans. |
Level 4-6 Feats
| Feat | Best users | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mobility | Melee Rogues | Half-Speed movement without triggering reactions is excellent for entering, flanking, leaving, and surviving positioning. |
| Gang Up | Melee Rogues | Makes flanking much easier when you and an ally both threaten the same foe. It is one of Rogue's best practical feats. |
| Dread Striker | Fear teams | Frightened enemies are off-guard to you. Strong with Demoralize, fear spells, and allies who like conditions. |
| Skirmish Strike | Mobile Rogues | Step plus Strike sequencing fixes many awkward turns. Great when one square changes safety. |
| Poison Weapon | Poison Rogues | Real support for poison application, but Monster Core immunities and Fortitude saves matter. |
| Quick Draw | Thrown Rogues, tool-heavy Rogues | Draw and Strike action compression helps daggers, bombs, backup weapons, and consumables. |
| Delay Trap | Trap-heavy campaigns | Useful when hazards are active threats. Dead weight when the GM treats traps as rare scenery. |
Level 8-12 Feats
| Feat | Best users | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Blind-Fight | Scouts, melee Rogues, high-Perception Rogues | Excellent against hidden, concealed, or invisible enemies. Monster Core loves ruining clean target assumptions. |
| Opportune Backstab | Melee party Rogues | Reaction damage when an ally hits your target. Strong with allies who can make frequent weapon Strikes. |
| Tactical Debilitations | Scoundrel | Adds practical debilitation options, especially anti-reaction play and tactical denial. |
| Precise Debilitations | Thief | Extra precision damage or off-guard support lines up perfectly with the Thief plan. |
| Vicious Debilitations | Ruffian | Weakness and clumsy-style pressure support physical parties and control play. |
| Methodical Debilitations | Mastermind | Defensive and tactical denial fits the knowledge Rogue's job. |
| Improved Poison Weapon | Poison Rogues | Better if the party regularly faces living, poison-vulnerable enemies. Bad if undead, constructs, and fiends dominate. |
| Ricochet Stance | Thrown Rogues | Makes thrown weapon logistics much easier. Pair with runes and backup weapons. |
Level 14-20 Feats
| Feat | Best users | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Instant Opening | Any Rogue | One-action off-guard setup against your attacks is exactly what late Rogue wants. Simple, strong, reliable. |
| Defensive Roll | Melee Rogues | Emergency survival against physical hits. If it triggers once in a boss fight, it paid rent. |
| Preparation | Reaction-heavy Rogues | Extra reaction support is excellent if you have Nimble Dodge, Opportune Backstab, or other reaction value. |
| Spring from the Shadows | Stealth Rogues | Movement plus attack from hiding or being undetected creates very Rogue-shaped turns. |
| Cognitive Loophole | High-level survival | Mental effects can ruin martials. This gives a way to keep acting through a bad control effect. |
| Dispelling Slice | Anti-caster Rogues | Strong when enemy buffs matter; campaign-dependent otherwise. |
| Powerful Sneak | Late-game strikers | Helps sneak attack matter against precision resistance or immunity pressure. Good Monster Core insurance. |
| Impossible Striker | Level 20 Rogues | High-level answer to off-guard failure. Great capstone style, but it arrives late. |
Racket Feat Plans
| Racket | Feat plan | Skill pressure | Gear pressure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thief | Tumble Behind, Mobility, Gang Up, Precise Debilitations, defensive options | Acrobatics, Stealth, Thievery, Medicine | Finesse/agile melee weapon, light armor runes, thieves' tools, mobility consumables |
| Scoundrel | Feint support, Dread Striker, Tactical Debilitations, social skill feats | Deception, Diplomacy, Intimidation, Society | Finesse weapon, disguise kit, social gear, backup ranged option |
| Ruffian | Athletics and Intimidation support, Vicious Debilitations, durability | Athletics, Intimidation, Thievery, Survival | Eligible simple weapons, medium armor, potency runes, sturdy shield if using one |
| Mastermind | Recall Knowledge support, Methodical Debilitations, ranged backup, knowledge feats | Society, Lore, Arcana, Nature, Occultism, Religion | Skill items, ranged weapon, scroll support through archetypes if available |
Build Paths
Thief Finesse Striker
Start with Tumble Behind or Twin Feint, then take Mobility and Gang Up as soon as they fit. From there, add Precise Debilitations and survival tools. This is the best Rogue build for players who want a clean, repeatable turn: move, make off-guard happen, Strike with finesse or agile weapons, and leave before the monster remembers your name.
Pair it with Acrobatics, Stealth, Thievery, light armor, and a finesse weapon from the weapons guide.
Scoundrel Face Rogue
Scoundrel wants Deception to matter in combat and social scenes. Feint, Create a Diversion, Dread Striker, Tactical Debilitations, and social skill feats create a Rogue who talks enemies into bad math. The trap is over-investing in social tricks while forgetting that combat still starts after the clever line.
Pair it with Deception, Diplomacy, Intimidation, social encounters, and conditions.
Ruffian Control Rogue
Ruffian shifts Rogue toward Strength, physical control, Intimidation, and tougher armor. It likes Athletics maneuvers, fear support, and debilitations that punish enemy defenses. It is less elegant than Thief and less silver-tongued than Scoundrel, but it has a satisfying answer to "what if I just shove the problem?"
Pair it with Athletics, grapple and control actions, Intimidation, armor, and weapon traits.
Mastermind Knowledge Rogue
Mastermind is the most GM-sensitive Rogue. When Recall Knowledge produces useful information, the racket feels brilliant. When it produces vague shrugging, the build feels like a notebook with a knife taped to it. Take knowledge skills, Society, Lore, and feat support that turns monster information into target selection.
Pair it with Society, Lore, Arcana, Nature, Occultism, Religion, and Monster Core stat blocks.
Trap And Infiltration Rogue
Trap Finder and Thievery support are great when the GM uses hazards, locks, alarms, secret doors, and exploration tension. They are weaker when every door is open and every enemy waits in a square room. This build needs buy-in from the campaign, not just the character sheet.
Pair it with Thievery, Stealth, Crafting, hazards, detection and senses, and adventuring gear.
Skill Feats That Carry Rogue
| Skill lane | Rogue value |
|---|---|
| Acrobatics | Tumble Through, Escape, movement tricks, and high-level mobility support make melee Rogue turns smoother. |
| Stealth | Avoid Notice, Hide, Sneak, and ambush play support Surprise Attack and ranged Rogue plans. |
| Thievery | Locks, traps, devices, theft, and infiltration are classic Rogue jobs for a reason. |
| Deception | Feint, Create a Diversion, Impersonate, and social lies support Scoundrel and stealth play. |
| Medicine | Rogues get enough skill feats to become excellent backup or primary medics without sacrificing class identity. |
| Society and Lore | Mastermind and urban Rogues want reliable Recall Knowledge and investigation tools. |

Equipment That Changes Feat Value
| Gear | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Finesse and agile weapons | Keep sneak attack eligibility and multiple-attack plans clean. |
| Thrown weapons | Support ranged Rogue plans, but require rune and retrieval planning. |
| Light armor and runes | You are a precision striker, not a wall. AC scaling still matters. |
| Thieves' tools | Mandatory for the Rogue who claims to handle locks and hazards. |
| Skill items | Make your overloaded skill plan reliable against GM Core DCs. |
| Consumables | Invisibility, mobility, healing, antiplague, antidote, and utility items keep you useful when the map is hostile. |
| Poisons | Stronger in living-creature campaigns; weaker against undead, constructs, and poison-resistant enemy sets. |
Use weapons, ranged weapons, runes, consumables, and magic items by level to support the feat chain.
GM Core And Monster Core Context
Rogue value changes sharply with encounter design. Tight maps, cover, darkness, hazards, doors, patrols, social scenes, and varied monsters make Rogue feats better. Empty arenas punish Stealth, Thievery, traps, and tactical positioning. Monster Core also matters because precision immunity, resistance, concealment, reactions, and high Perception can change which off-guard methods work.
For GMs, the practical fix is not "nerf the Rogue" or "hand them sneak attack." Use real terrain, real consequences, and real information. A Rogue should earn openings, but the campaign should contain openings worth earning.
Common Mistakes
| Mistake | Better choice |
|---|---|
| Taking a pile of cute tricks with no off-guard routine | Build at least two ways to trigger sneak attack without begging the party. |
| Taking racket-hostile feats | Match the feat to Thief, Scoundrel, Ruffian, or Mastermind before calling it a build. |
| Ignoring movement | Take Mobility, Acrobatics support, positioning tools, or a ranged backup. |
| Treating Thievery as automatic | Buy tools, raise proficiency, and ask whether hazards actually matter in the campaign. |
| Using weapons that fight the class chassis | Check sneak attack eligibility, traits, hand usage, and rune logistics before committing. |
| Taking poison feats in the wrong campaign | Check whether the GM uses living enemies often enough for poison to pay off. |
| Building Mastermind without knowledge coverage | Invest in Society, Lore, and tradition skills before blaming the racket. |
| Forgetting defense | Nimble Dodge, armor runes, positioning, and consumables keep the Rogue alive long enough to be annoying. |
