Introduction
Psychic feats should make the class's strange little engine easier to run: psi cantrips, amps, Focus Points, limited occult slots, and a two-round Unleash Psyche window that rewards timing and punishes panic.
The Psychic is not a normal full caster with fewer spell slots. It is a cantrip-and-focus specialist with a burst switch. If your feat plan does not improve the turn you already take, it needs to be incredibly useful outside combat.

Rating Legend
| Meaning |
|---|
| Excellent default or build-defining pick. |
| Strong when the mind, party, or campaign supports it. |
| Playable, but narrow, risky, or action-expensive. |
| Usually weaker than a spell, skill feat, item, or cleaner Psychic feat. |
Prerequisite And Access Warnings
Psychic feat planning has more hidden gates than it first appears. A feat can look strong on paper, but lose value if it breaks your Focus Point loop, misses your conscious mind, depends on mental targets, or asks a 6-HP caster to stand somewhere deeply unreasonable.
| Warning | What To Check | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Focus gate | Does the feat spend Focus Points, improve amps, or tempt you into non-psychic focus abilities? | Psychic's improved Refocus value is a core engine. Off-class focus spending can make the amp loop worse. |
| Conscious mind gate | Does the feat improve what your conscious mind repeatedly does? | Tangible Dream, Infinite Eye, Unbound Step, Oscillating Wave, Distant Grasp, and Silent Whisper want different support. |
| Subconscious mind gate | Does the feat match your defensive, knowledge, social, or mobility emphasis? | Subconscious mind benefits should shape the feat lane instead of sitting in the corner like decorative furniture. |
| Unleash gate | Can you set up before the two-round Unleash Psyche window? | Burst feats are weaker if you spend the burst window moving, escaping, or correcting bad positioning. |
| Targeting gate | Does the feat rely on mental effects, Will saves, fire, cold, force, physical damage, or line of effect? | Monster Core matchup pressure can turn a great feat into a narrow one. |
| Defense gate | Does the feat require touch range, midline play, or enemy attention? | Psychic has low HP and no armor training. Defensive math and positioning are prerequisites, not optional polish. |
| Campaign gate | Does the adventure include occult mysteries, social scenes, mindscapes, investigations, or unusual terrain? | Some feats are excellent in Dark Archive-style games and much thinner in direct dungeon crawls. |
The clean test is simple: does this feat improve the turn your Psychic already wants to take? If not, it needs to solve a repeated campaign problem, not just look eerie in the feat list.

Hot Take: Psychic fragility is primarily a positioning and action-economy problem. A powerful amp or Unleash Psyche feat loses its value when the caster spends the burst window escaping instead of applying pressure.
Prerequisite Checklist By Psychic Lane
Use this before spending a class feat. Psychic has enough moving pieces that "seems useful" is not a plan. It is a vibe with invoices.
| Psychic Lane | Required Checks | Best Supporting Guides |
|---|---|---|
| Amp specialist | Focus Point spending, amp frequency, Refocus windows, cantrip targeting | Focus Spells, Cantrips, Three-Action Economy |
| Tangible Dream defender | Shield timing, reaction pressure, positioning, item defense | Reactions, Armor, Worn Invested Items |
| Infinite Eye support | Recall Knowledge skills, Aid expectations, party follow-through | Occultism, Skills, Stat Blocks |
| Oscillating Wave blaster | Fire and cold coverage, save targeting, resistance checks, burst setup | Combat Spells, Creature Traits, Conditions |
| Silent Whisper controller | Mental immunity risk, Will-save pressure, social-scene frequency, backup options | Occult Spells, Social Encounters, Deception |
| Unbound Step skirmisher | Map texture, line of effect, escape tools, defensive fallback | Movement Actions, Environment, Hazards |
Early Feat Priorities
| Feat Lane | Best Users | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Amp improvement | Every Psychic | Amps are class features disguised as cantrip upgrades. Improve what you cast every fight. |
| Defensive positioning | Every Psychic | Six HP per level and no armor training means getting cornered is not cute. |
| Conscious mind support | Mind-focused builds | A feat that improves your mind's repeated job is better than a generic trick. |
| Occult skill utility | Infinite Eye, Silent Whisper, Gathered Lore | Strong when the campaign rewards investigation, social pressure, and strange knowledge. |
| Extra cantrip breadth | Psychics lacking target diversity | Useful if it gives a second reliable defense to target or a non-mental answer. |
| Weapon or melee tricks | Specific Imaginary Weapon builds | Touch-range Psychic can work, but it needs defense. Otherwise it is a dramatic way to meet the floor. |
Mid-Level Priorities
| Feat Lane | Best Users | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Focus economy | Amp-heavy Psychics | Better Refocus rhythm matters because amps are the class's repeatable pressure. |
| Unleash Psyche support | Blasters and damage minds | Strong if it helps you cash in the two-round burst without wasting actions. |
| Defensive reactions or escape tools | Fragile or midline builds | Psychic damage drops sharply when you are unconscious, which is rude but true. |
| Party support tools | Infinite Eye, Tangible Dream, Emotional Acceptance | Aid, guidance-style support, shields, and mental protection help the party every fight. |
| Occult exploration tools | Dark Archive-style campaigns | Great in campaigns with haunts, mindscapes, cults, spirits, dreams, and investigations. |
| Narrow mental-only pressure | Silent Whisper, social games | Strong when it works; bring non-mental backups for mindless or immune enemies. |
High-Level Priorities
| Feat Lane | Best Users | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Reliable burst payoff | Oscillating Wave, damage builds | High-level turns should convert the Unleash window into meaningful encounter pressure. |
| Survivability and saves | Everyone | Monster Core high-level enemies punish bad defensive math. |
| Better target selection | Infinite Eye, Gathered Lore, blasters | Knowing which save or resistance to avoid is worth more than another flashy spell. |
| Mindscape and occult campaign tools | Dark Archive campaigns | Excellent when the GM actually uses psychic spaces, secret societies, dream logic, and paranormal scenes. |
| More niche spell access | Experienced players | Great if it patches a known gap. Bad if it adds another spell you admire but never cast. |
Conscious Mind Feat Lanes
| Conscious Mind | Best feat lane | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tangible Dream | Defense, shield amp, force/illusion utility | Best generalist because it solves survivability and support problems. |
| Infinite Eye | Aid, information, targeting, party support | Great if your table acts on knowledge instead of filing it under "neat." |
| Unbound Step | Mobility, teleportation, terrain solutions | The more interesting the map, the better this mind becomes. |
| Oscillating Wave | Fire/cold damage, resistance awareness, burst timing | Excellent blaster, but fire/cold matchup knowledge matters. |
| Distant Grasp | Telekinesis, forced movement, physical pressure | Reliable against some mental-immune problems that annoy other Psychics. |
| Silent Whisper | Telepathy, mental control, social pressure | Excellent in the right campaign; keep a backup for mindless creatures. |
Subconscious Mind Feat Pressure
| Subconscious Mind | Feat Implication |
|---|---|
| Precise Discipline | You can lean harder into burst and midline casting because Calculate Threats patches AC and Reflex during Unleash Psyche. |
| Gathered Lore | Knowledge feats, Aid support, Occultism investment, and Recall Knowledge tools get better. |
| Emotional Acceptance | Charisma skills, support feats, social play, and mental protection become more natural. |
| Wandering Reverie | Mobility, concealment, Stealth-adjacent positioning, and dreamlike utility matter more. |
Build Paths
Tangible Dream Defender
Core priorities: shield amp support, defensive feats, focus economy, safe ranged pressure, and utility spells.
Core links: reactions, focus spells, utility spells, armor, and worn invested items.
Infinite Eye Support
Core priorities: guidance support, Aid support, knowledge tools, Recall Knowledge expansion, and party accuracy.
Core skills: Occultism, Arcana, Society, Diplomacy, and Medicine.
This build shines when the party uses information. If your group ignores monster weaknesses after you identify them, the feat plan will feel like handing someone a map they immediately eat.
Oscillating Wave Blaster
Core priorities: damage support, target-defense reading, Unleash timing, focus economy, and defensive escape.
Core links: combat spells, battle magic, Monster Core stat blocks, and creature traits.
This build is good when you track fire and cold honestly. It is worse when every answer is "more fire" and the GM starts smiling at the elemental tag line.
Silent Whisper Occult Face
Core priorities: mental effects, social spell utility, non-mental backups, defensive positioning, and campaign-facing occult tools.
Core links: social encounters, Deception, Diplomacy, Intimidation, and Dark Archive.
Silent Whisper is excellent in horror, intrigue, faction, and investigation games. It is less reliable in monster-heavy crawls full of enemies with no minds and very strong opinions about eating you.
Spell And Item Support
| Need | Best support |
|---|---|
| Repeated pressure | Cantrips, psi cantrips, and amps |
| Burst timing | Psychic spells, occult spells, and Unleash Psyche planning |
| Rare utility | Scrolls and consumables |
| Daily utility | Staves and wands |
| Defensive math | Armor, explorer's clothing runes, and worn invested items |
| Campaign weirdness | Rituals, mindscapes, and Dark Archive |
GM Core And Monster Core Context
GM Core affects Psychic feats through encounter length, terrain, hiding places, line of effect, social encounters, research scenes, and rest windows. Psychic wants enough time to Refocus and enough encounter texture for information and positioning to matter.
Monster Core matters because mental immunity, high Will saves, senses, movement modes, weaknesses, resistances, and creature traits can change a Psychic's best option. Use creature traits, stat blocks, and monster encounter use before deciding a mental trick is always Blue.
Common Mistakes
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Spending Focus Points outside Psychic too casually | Protect the 2-point Refocus rhythm unless the off-class option is clearly worth it. |
| Taking mind-specific feats on the wrong mind | Build around the conscious and subconscious mind you actually chose. |
| Unleashing before positioning | Set up first, then burst. Stupefied cleanup is not free. |
| Building only mental effects | Bring physical, force, utility, or support options for immune enemies. |
| Taking touch-range tricks without a defense plan | Fix AC, escape tools, and positioning before volunteering to stand near claws. |
| Ignoring defense | Buy gear and take positioning seriously. Psychic is fragile. |
| Taking occult utility in a no-occult campaign | Ask whether the GM will actually run the scenes your feat solves. |
