Introduction
Oracle feats are not just caster feats with spooky lighting. They decide how often you push your curse, how hard your mystery matters, how much your divine repertoire can stretch, and whether you are a stable support caster or a walking lesson about risk management.
The class is strongest when cursebound abilities are used intentionally. The class is funniest when they are not. Try to be strong first.

Hot Take: Oracle feat planning works when a cursebound cost changes a consequential turn. Repeatedly escalating the curse for ordinary encounters leaves the class short on recovery when the fight that matters arrives.
Trap Options And Overrated Picks
Oracle trap options usually look exciting because they promise drama: bigger curse moments, weapon turns, unusual spells, or mystery flavor. The problem is not that those choices are fake. The problem is that Oracle pays for drama in actions, curse escalation, repertoire pressure, ability scores, and sometimes the party's patience.
Use this table before taking a feat because it sounds more Oracle.
| Trap Pattern | Why It Disappoints | Better Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Casual cursebound spam | Cursebound feats are strong because they have real drawback pressure. Spending them in routine fights can make the next important fight worse. | Save cursebound escalation for encounters where the benefit changes the result. |
| Battle Oracle weapon chasing | Weapon support competes with spell DC, Charisma, defenses, actions, and curse management. You can become a worse martial and a worse caster at the same time, which is efficient only in the tragic sense. | Treat weapon attacks as a backup plan unless the whole build supports them. Use armor, runes, and defensive feats first. |
| Damage-type tunnel vision | Flames, Tempest, vitality, void, spirit, and other damage plans can run into resistance, immunity, or poor save targeting. | Check creature traits, stat blocks, and combat spells before overcommitting. |
| Divine Access without planning | The feat is much weaker if deity domains and spell options are chosen after the fact. | Coordinate deity, domains, mystery, and spell gaps before spending the feat. |
| Mysterious Repertoire for novelty | A non-divine spell is not automatically better. A spell you cast once every six sessions is a scroll wearing a class feat costume. | Use scrolls and consumables for rare answers and save Mysterious Repertoire for repeatable problems. |
| Domain Acumen as flavor only | Domain spells vary in table value. If the domain spell does not solve repeated turns, the feat is mostly aesthetic. | Take it when the domain spell supports the build's normal encounter loop. |
| Defensive neglect on risky mysteries | Flames, Battle, Bones, and curse-heavy play all increase pressure. A dramatic feat does not help if you are unconscious. | Prioritize defenses, positioning, Medicine, and item math. |
| Over-investing in knowledge without party buy-in | Lore and Ancestors shine when the group acts on information. If nobody changes tactics, the feat value drops. | Pair knowledge feats with party damage coverage and GM-side creature clues. |
Level 1-2 Feats
| Feat | Best Users | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Nudge the Scales | Life, Bones, support Oracles | One-action healing or harm-adjacent support is easy to fit and changes turns. |
| Oracular Warning | Battle, Cosmos, support casters | Initiative support matters in every serious fight. Acting before the problem gets worse is an underrated defense. |
| Foretell Harm | Flames, Tempest, damage Oracles | Strong when your build repeatedly deals the right damage types and the party can exploit the pressure. |
| Whispers of Weakness | Ancestors, Lore, knowledge parties | Monster information is power, especially when it reveals a weakness the party can actually hit. |
| Reach Spell | Almost every Oracle | Safer healing, safer buffs, safer debuffs. Boring and excellent, the caster feat tax with good manners. |
| Domain Acumen | Domain-focused mysteries | Good if the domain spell becomes a repeated tool, not just a theme sticker. |
| Knowledge of Shapes | Reach/Widen users | Strong when the action and curse cost produce better targeting or safer play. |
Level 4-6 Feats
| Feat | Best Users | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Gifted Power | Mysteries with strong granted spells | More spell access is excellent for spontaneous casters when the granted option is one you will actually cast. |
| Advanced Revelation | Most Oracles | Revelation spells define the mystery and keep you useful without spending slots. |
| Surging Might | Spirit, vitality, void, Flames, Tempest | Better when your damage plan repeats those damage types. Narrow if the campaign resists them often. |
| Bespell Strikes-style weapon support | Battle Oracle | Only worth it if weapon turns are a real plan. Most Oracles should keep casting. |
| Divine Access planning | Domain-aware Oracles | The real payoff arrives later, but feat and repertoire planning should start early. |
| Mystery utility feats | Lore, Ancestors, Cosmos | Strong when the campaign rewards investigation, social play, travel, or supernatural weirdness. |
Level 8-12 Feats
| Feat | Best Users | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Waters of Creation | Life, Tempest support | Excellent healing and support identity for the mysteries that want it. |
| Revelation's Focus | Focus-heavy Oracles | If you are using revelation spells often, better Refocus output changes the whole adventuring day. |
| Mysterious Repertoire | Experienced caster planners | Fantastic when you know exactly which non-divine spell solves a repeated problem. Mediocre when chosen for novelty. |
| Divine Access | Domain planners | Adding deity-granted cleric spells through mystery domains can patch divine-list gaps. Plan it with the GM. |
| Defensive curse support | Frontline or risky mysteries | Better AC, saves, range, or positioning often beats another dramatic curse button. |
| Social or knowledge support | Lore, Ancestors, Charisma Oracles | Strong when social encounters and information actually matter. |
Level 14-20 Feats
| Feat | Best Users | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Divine Effusion | High-level casters | More top-end divine endurance is a real payoff in long or dangerous days. |
| Greater Revelation support | Focus-heavy Oracles | Strong if your mystery's late revelation spell earns the action and focus cost. |
| Blaze of Revelation | Emergency high-drama play | Powerful, risky, and extremely Oracle. Use when the scene is worth the aftermath. |
| High-level repertoire expansion | Utility Oracles | Great if it patches a real recurring gap. Weak if it adds a spell you only admire. |
| Defensive capstone support | Battle, Flames, Bones | At high level, survival is a build feature. Monsters are not politely impressed by your theme. |
Mystery Feat Lanes
| Mystery | Best feat lane | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Life | Healing, Reach Spell, Waters of Creation, Revelation's Focus | The safest support Oracle. Watch the self-healing penalty from curse escalation. |
| Tempest | Damage, mobility, granted spells, focus support | Strongest when lightning, water, storm, and positioning tools fit the campaign. |
| Cosmos | Utility, movement, defensive play, revelation spells | Excellent backline mystery; worse if you try to become an Athletics frontliner. |
| Lore | Knowledge, Divine Access, repertoire expansion | Great when the party acts on Recall Knowledge instead of treating it like trivia night. |
| Flames | Damage support, resistance planning, defensive support | Good blasting, but fire resistance and persistent fire require a plan. |
| Bones | Healing/harm duality, Medicine, durability | Strong theme, but vitality and void weakness can be campaign-sensitive. |
| Ancestors | Knowledge, Society, weakness reading, spirit utility | Better in campaigns with history, spirits, social pressure, and meaningful clues. |
| Battle | Defensive feats, action economy, armor, careful spell support | Playable but expensive. Do not build it like a frontline martial with a curse. |
Build Paths
Life Support Oracle
Core picks: Nudge the Scales, Reach Spell, Waters of Creation, Revelation's Focus, Divine Effusion.
Core skills: Medicine, Religion, and Diplomacy.
Best gear: staves and wands, consumables, healer's tools, light armor, and worn invested items.
This build is excellent if the party needs reliable divine support. It is less fun if you wanted every turn to be a fireworks show. Healing is not glamorous, but neither is losing.
Tempest Or Flames Blaster
Core picks: Foretell Harm, Gifted Power, Surging Might, Advanced Revelation, Revelation's Focus, Mysterious Repertoire.
Core links: combat spells, battle magic, conditions, and creature traits.
The blaster Oracle needs damage-type awareness. Monster Core resistances, immunities, weaknesses, and saves decide whether your dramatic spell is decisive or just expensive lighting.
Lore Or Ancestors Knowledge Oracle
Core picks: Whispers of Weakness, mystery utility, Divine Access planning, Mysterious Repertoire, social or knowledge feat support.
Core skills: Religion, Occultism, Society, Diplomacy, and Deception.
This build is strongest when the GM gives clues, factions, creature lore, spirits, and social consequences. In a campaign where every door just hides another initiative roll, it loses some shine.
Battle Oracle
Core picks: Oracular Warning, Reach Spell, defensive support, carefully chosen weapon support, and item-backed survival.
Core links: armor, weapons, runes, three-action economy, and reactions.
Battle Oracle is not bad. Battle Oracle is expensive. You need Charisma for spells, physical stats for the weapon plan, Constitution for survival, Dexterity or armor for AC, and enough humility to cast spells when swinging is a bad idea.
Spell And Item Support
Oracle feat value changes with spell and item access because spontaneous casters cannot know everything.
| Need | Best non-class-feat support |
|---|---|
| Niche removal | Scrolls and consumables |
| Repeated utility | Staves and wands |
| Healing between fights | Medicine and healer's tools |
| Damage-type coverage | Oracle spells and divine spells |
| Rare ritual solutions | Rituals |
| Defensive math | Armor, worn items, and magic items by level |
GM Core And Monster Core Context
GM Core affects Oracle feats through encounter pacing, rest opportunities, treasure access, curse-friendly narrative pressure, social scenes, hazards, and divine themes. Long adventuring days reward sustainable support and careful curse use. Boss fights reward burst cursebound choices and emergency spells.
Monster Core affects Oracle through creature traits, weaknesses, immunities, saves, senses, undead and spirit tags, and condition resistance. Use creature traits, stat blocks, and monster encounter use before deciding whether a damage, curse, or knowledge feat is really Blue at your table.
Common Mistakes
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Treating cursebound like a free action | Count the drawback as part of the cost. |
| Taking dramatic feats before defensive math | Keep AC, saves, positioning, and healing on schedule before adding more risk. |
| Taking mystery feats that do not fit the campaign | Ask whether the table will repeatedly reward that theme. |
| Overloading the repertoire with rare answers | Put rare answers on scrolls. Keep known spells repeatable. |
| Building Battle Oracle like a martial | You still need spell DC, defenses, and curse management. |
| Ignoring Refocus windows | Oracle wants 10-minute pauses more than the party may realize. |
