Introduction
Exemplar feats should make your legend easier to play, not harder to explain. The class already tracks a divine spark, three ikons, passive immanence effects, active transcendence effects, epithets, weapon math, and table story pressure. The best feats sharpen that loop.

Use this with the Exemplar class guide, War of Immortals guide, mythic guide, combat guide, weapons guide, runes guide, shields guide, archetypes guide, and GM adventure hooks.
Rating Legend
| Rating | Meaning |
|---|---|
| ● | Core to a major Exemplar build or broadly strong. |
| ● | Strong when the ikon, weapon, party, or campaign supports it. |
| ● | Situational, action-hungry, or late-game dependent. |
| ● | Usually too narrow or too disconnected from the spark loop. |
Prerequisite And Access Warnings
Exemplar is a War of Immortals class, not a Player Core default. Confirm table access before you build around these feats, especially in campaigns that are sticking to Player Core, Player Core 2, GM Core, and Monster Core only.
| Warning | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Rare class access | Exemplar is rare and mythic-flavored. The GM should approve the class before feat planning starts. |
| Ikon dependency | Many feats assume a weapon, body, or worn ikon plan. A feat that supports the wrong ikon is usually dead weight. |
| Spark timing | Feats that look strong on paper can become awkward if they fight your normal immanence and Spark Transcendence rhythm. |
| Weapon and rune assumptions | Weapon ikon builds still need current weapons, weapon traits, and runes. A named legendary blade with bad math is still bad math. |
| Shield assumptions | Mirrored Aegis and shield plans need Shield Block, replacement shields, repair access, and party positioning. |
| Campaign tone | Some mythic, divine, and reputation-facing feats are much better when the GM is actually using divine politics, public legend, factions, or mythic stakes. |
| Action pressure | Exemplar already has movement, Strikes, spark movement, transcendence choices, reactions, and item actions competing for space. Do not buy four "signature" moves that all want the same turn. |
| Source boundaries | This guide ranks War of Immortals Exemplar feats with support from remastered books. Add other sourcebooks only after the relevant book is available for verification. |
Who Should Take Exemplar Feats
| Character | Should take this? | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Exemplar using one clear weapon ikon plan | Yes | This is where most of the strongest feat choices live. |
| Exemplar trying to be mobile striker, rescuer, or divine face | Yes | The class supports those lanes well if the feats point in one direction. |
| Character who only wants better attack math | No | Choose a simpler martial class. Exemplar feats pay you in mythic action texture, not raw simplicity. |
| Table with no War of Immortals access | No | Do not smuggle rare expansion assumptions into a restricted campaign. |
| Player who dislikes tracking moving parts | Usually no | Ikons, spark position, immanence, transcendence, gear, and reactions are the point of the class. |
Fast Recommendations
| Exemplar plan | Best feat direction |
|---|---|
| Weapon ikon striker ● | Twin Stars, Hurl at the Horizon, Through the Needle's Eye, Motionless Cutter, Mated Birds in Paired Flight, Compliant Gold |
| Spark damage hero ● | Energized Spark, Sanctified Soul, Vow of Mortal Defiance, Exult in Violence |
| Mobile legend ● | Leap the Falls, Lightning Swap, Flow of War, Journey of the Sky Chariot, Dancer in the Seasons |
| Defensive rescuer ● | Scar of the Survivor, Mirrored Aegis support, Fish from the Falls' Edge, Complete the Hero's Journey |
| Mythic finale build ● | Strike Rivers, Seize Winds, Remake the World |
| Random ikon sampler ● | Unrelated feats that do not support the spark rhythm |
Hot Take: An Exemplar feat earns its slot when it makes one ikon's spark loop more reliable at the table. A broad collection of mythic tricks is less useful than a weapon, movement, or rescue plan the character can execute every fight.

Level 1-4 Priorities
Early Exemplar feats should answer three questions: what weapon matters, what ikon usually holds the spark, and what happens when enemies force you to move?
| Early priority | Why |
|---|---|
| Weapon ikon support ● | Most Exemplars need one reliable weapon plan before the stranger body or worn ikon tricks matter. |
| Spark damage tuning ● | Spirit damage, sanctification, and enemy type pressure can be campaign-defining. |
| Mobility access ● | PF2e punishes melee characters who cannot reach the useful square. |
| Defensive durability ● | Exemplar has 10 HP per level, but front-line legends still get hit. |
| Pure flavor feat without table loop ● | Good story, bad turn economy. The book already gives you plenty of story. |
Early Build Checks
| Question | If yes, prioritize |
|---|---|
| Are you melee with Gleaming Blade, Noble Branch, Titan's Breaker, Barrow's Edge, or Mortal Harvest? | Weapon ikon feats, Athletics, armor, runes, and reach/mobility. |
| Are you ranged with Starshot or Unfailing Bow? | Ranged support, ranged weapons, cover discipline, and anti-flyer planning. |
| Are you thrown with Shadow Sheath? | Thrown weapon feat support, backup melee, rune planning, and action discipline. |
| Are you shielded with Mirrored Aegis? | Shield durability, Shield Block, defensive reactions, and party positioning. |
| Are you trying to be the public legend? | Diplomacy, Intimidation, Religion, factions, and GM buy-in. |
Level 6-10 Priorities
Mid-level Exemplar feats should make the spark loop smooth. You want stronger weapon turns, cleaner movement, better defensive responses, and enough damage-type planning that Monster Core resistances do not embarrass you.
| Mid-level lane | Notes |
|---|---|
| Weapon ikon path ● | This is the most reliable way to keep Exemplar martial output relevant. |
| Mobility path ● | Leap the Falls, Lightning Swap, Flow of War, and similar choices protect the action plan. |
| Defensive and rescue path ● | Excellent when the party needs a durable second frontliner or emergency stabilizer. |
| Spark damage path ● | Better against undead, fiends, celestials, mythic enemies, and damage-type-sensitive encounters. |
| Social mythic identity ● | Strong in campaigns with public reputation, divine politics, or social encounters. |
Level 12-20 Priorities
High-level Exemplar feats should feel like the legend paying off. They still need to solve real problems: flight, reach, resistances, action denial, boss saves, party rescue, and campaign-ending stakes.
| High-level direction | Best use |
|---|---|
| Infinite Blades Celestial Arrow / Sunwrecker style weapon payoffs ● | Weapon ikon builds that need late-game offense and spectacle. |
| Branched Tree of Pain / Seven-Colored Cosmic Bridge style control ● | Parties that exploit positioning and multi-enemy pressure. |
| Healer of the World / Reach for Immortality style rescue ● | High-risk parties, mythic threats, and campaigns where defeat has narrative weight. |
| Strike Rivers / Seize Winds / Remake the World ● | Great in high-level War of Immortals campaigns; too late and too big to matter in most low-level planning. |
| More unrelated tricks ● | At high level, action economy is harsher, not softer. |
Feat Lanes Ranked
Weapon Ikon Path
This is the default recommendation. Twin Stars, Hurl at the Horizon, Through the Needle's Eye, Binding Serpents Celestial Arrow, Motionless Cutter, Mated Birds in Paired Flight, Compliant Gold, Infinite Blades Celestial Arrow, Branched Tree of Pain, Seven-Colored Cosmic Bridge, and Sunwrecker all support the premise that your sacred weapon is how your legend happens.
Best users:
- Gleaming Blade melee strikers.
- Noble Branch reach builds.
- Titan's Breaker heavy hitters.
- Starshot and Unfailing Bow archers.
- Shadow Sheath thrown builds.
Spark Damage Path
Energized Spark, Sanctified Soul, Vow of Mortal Defiance, Exult in Violence, and similar spark-facing feats are best when enemy type and damage typing matter. This path improves the divine identity without turning you into a spellcaster.
Move these up if the campaign includes undead, fiends, celestials, sanctified conflicts, divine wars, mythic enemies, or recurring resistances and weaknesses. Move them down in a grounded mercenary campaign where most enemies are bandits, beasts, and tax problems with knives.
Mobility Path
Leap the Falls, Lightning Swap, Flow of War, Journey of the Sky Chariot, Thousand-League Sandals support, Dancer in the Seasons, The Brave, and Seven-Colored Cosmic Bridge all answer the martial question nobody can dodge: can you reach the useful square?
Mobility feats are better with:
- Melee weapon ikons.
- Flanking and positioning.
- Large maps, flight, verticality, and hazards.
- Parties that benefit from reliable accuracy, control, or terrain support.
Defensive And Rescue Path
Scar of the Survivor, Mirrored Aegis support, Pelt of the Beast, Skin Hard as Horn, Fish from the Falls' Edge, Complete the Hero's Journey, Healer of the World, and Reach for Immortality support the durable legend.
This path is strongest when the party already has damage and needs someone to survive bad turns, hold space, stabilize allies, or keep a mythic fight from turning into a memorial slideshow.
Mythic Reality-Bending Path
Strike Rivers, Seize Winds, and Remake the World are late-game feats for campaigns that want Exemplar to become visibly mythic. They are real payoffs, but they are not practical early advice. Do not build a level 3 character around a level 18 poster moment.
Build-Specific Feat Plans
| Build | Best plan |
|---|---|
| Strength melee legend | Weapon ikon path first, then mobility or defense. Use weapons, weapon traits, and armor. |
| Dexterity archer | Starshot or Unfailing Bow support, ranged lanes, cover discipline, and movement. Read ranged weapons. |
| Thrown weapon trickster | Shadow Sheath support, Hurl at the Horizon-style picks, rune planning, and backup melee. |
| Shielded relic bearer | Mirrored Aegis, shield feats, Scar of the Survivor, defensive rescue, and Shield Block. |
| Party banner hero | Victor's Wreath, support epithets, social skills, defensive rescue, and party coordination. |
| Mythic face | Reputation, divine story, social skills, factions, and mythic hooks. |
Skill, General, And Equipment Support
| Support layer | Exemplar use |
|---|---|
| Athletics ● | Trip, Grapple, Shove, climb, swim, and physical legend scenes. |
| Acrobatics ● | Balance, Escape, mobility, and stylish repositioning. |
| Intimidation ● | Public legend, fear pressure, and martial third actions. |
| Diplomacy ● | Factions, reputation, leadership, and mythic presence. |
| Religion ● | Divine lore, sanctification themes, undead, fiends, celestials, and War of Immortals context. |
| Medicine ● | Keeps the legendary hero useful when the party is not in a cutscene. |
Gear priorities are not optional. Exemplar ikons are still items and body choices that must survive PF2e math. Keep runes, magic items by level, shields, armor, thrown backups, ranged backups, and consumables current.
GM And Monster Pressure
GM Core changes Exemplar feat value through treasure pacing, relic attention, social consequences, factions, hazards, and whether the campaign lets a rare divine martial matter in-world. If nobody reacts to your public legend, some social and mythic feat choices lose a lot of their oxygen.
Monster Core changes ratings through resistances, weaknesses, flight, reach, immunities, size, creature traits, and boss design. Spark damage and sanctified choices climb when enemy type matters. Mobility climbs when monsters fly or kite. Defensive rescue climbs when monsters hit hard enough to make "I survive" a party service.
Archetype Notes
Use martial archetypes, multiclass archetypes, and Free Archetype to support the legend without stealing the class's core action loop.
Good archetype directions:
- Bastion or shield support for Mirrored Aegis.
- Duelist or martial style support for one-handed weapon ikons.
- Archer support for Starshot or Unfailing Bow.
- Wrestler-style Athletics support for Strength legends.
- A divine-defense archetype only if it does not crowd the Exemplar identity.
Common Mistakes
- Taking three exciting ikon-adjacent feats that all demand different turns.
- Treating late mythic feats as if they help the low-level build.
- Forgetting weapon runes because the weapon has a name.
- Choosing social legend feats in a campaign with no social consequences.
- Ignoring three-action economy because the character sheet says "divine."
Trap Options To Watch
| Trap | Why it disappoints | Better pick |
|---|---|---|
| Mythic flavor without campaign support | If the GM is not using divine politics, reputation, mythic stakes, or public consequences, social legend feats lose value. | Ask during session zero, then choose weapon, mobility, or defense if the campaign is tactical. |
| Too many ikon lanes | Weapon, body, and worn support all look fun, but splitting feats across every ikon can make each one underdeveloped. | Pick one primary ikon lane and one backup lane. |
| Weapon ikon with weak equipment | Exemplar still follows PF2e item math. Falling behind on striking, potency, property runes, or backup weapons makes strong feats feel average. | Keep runes, magic items by level, and weapon traits current. |
| Defensive feats without party positioning | Rescue and shield choices are worse if allies scatter, refuse to flank, or stand outside your protective reach. | Pair defensive picks with flanking and positioning habits and a clear front-line plan. |
| Late-game reality-bending as a low-level build plan | Level 18-20 feats can be fantastic, but they do not help the first dozen sessions. | Build around level 1-10 function first, then add the mythic finale later. |
| Action-hungry "highlight reel" picks | A feat can be cool and still lose to the fact that you only have three actions. | Favor feats that improve the turns you already take. |
| Assuming Exemplar replaces the party | The class can hit, rescue, posture, and inspire, but it does not replace healing, scouting, control, or GM-facing teamwork. | Coordinate with skills, spell guides, and party roles. |
