Sorcerers are the Metamagic class. Their unique ability to modify spells makes them the most resource-flexible casters in the game. Feat choices for Sorcerers should extend this identity: protect concentration (War Caster or Resilient), expand Metamagic options (Metamagic Adept), and add utility layers that conserve the limited sorcery point pool (Fey Touched for free Misty Step, Lucky for guaranteed reliability).
Sorcerers receive three ASI/feat slots by level 12. Every slot must serve a clear purpose in the Metamagic engine.

Sorcerer Feat Priorities
- Charisma 20 - Spell save DC is the primary damage output driver
- War Caster or Resilient (Con) - Concentration protection is mandatory
- Fey Touched or Metamagic Adept - Utility expansion
- Lucky - Reliability insurance after core needs are met
Top Feats for Sorcerer
● War Caster
Sorcerers who use Quickened Spell to cast spells as bonus actions while also maintaining concentration need War Caster. The advantage on concentration saves ensures the most powerful concentration spells (Haste, Polymorph, Hold Monster) persist reliably. War Caster guide
● Resilient (Constitution)
Sorcerers have no Constitution save proficiency and low HP. Resilient (Con) addresses both: the proficiency bonus scales to +6 at tier 4, and the Constitution bump directly improves their HP per level. Resilient guide
● Fey Touched
+1 Charisma (spell save DC), free Misty Step (Sorcerers lack reliable teleportation otherwise), and a 1st-level enchantment/divination spell. Silvery Barbs as the chosen spell adds a powerful reaction ability to the Sorcerer's already-strong action economy. Fey Touched guide
● Lucky
Sorcerers have Metamagic for reliability, but Lucky adds a separate layer. Lucky points complement sorcery points rather than competing, letting you reroll a missed spell attack, a failed concentration save, or a low damage roll. Three uses per long rest is meaningful on a class with limited action economy. Lucky guide
● Metamagic Adept
Two new Metamagic options and 2 sorcery points added directly to the pool. For Sorcerers, this is uniquely powerful: other classes get a narrow Metamagic window from this feat, but Sorcerers integrate the new points into their full Font of Magic engine. Metamagic Adept guide
● Shadow Touched
+1 Charisma/Wisdom/Intelligence, free Invisibility once per long rest (Subtle Spell + Invisible = completely undetectable casting), and a 1st-level illusion spell. For Sorcerers who use Subtle Spell frequently, Shadow Touched adds the visual invisibility layer that makes the combination impenetrable. Shadow Touched guide
● Spell Sniper
For Sorcerers who primarily use spell attack rolls (Fire Bolt, Scorching Ray, Eldritch Blast via Magic Initiate), Spell Sniper doubles range and ignores cover. Less valuable for save-heavy Sorcerers who rarely use attack-roll spells. Spell Sniper guide
● Gift of the Gem Dragon (Fizban's)
A Charisma half-feat improves spell save DCs directly, and Telekinetic Reprisal gives a normally defenseless Sorcerer a real answer to being engaged in melee. Gift of the Gem Dragon guide
● Scion of the Outer Planes (Planescape)
Campaign-gated, and usually free via the Gate Warden or Planar Philosopher background rather than a spent feat slot. The free cantrip's spellcasting ability is your choice of Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma - pick Charisma and it scales directly with the same stat driving your spell save DC. Start BuildingFeats to Avoid
Great Weapon Master. Sorcerers are not melee attackers, so this feat is physically incompatible with the class.
Sharpshooter. Weapon attacks are not the Sorcerer's damage source.
Mage Slayer. Sorcerers are not melee-adjacent anti-casters, and the positioning requirement is awkward for a class that prefers range.
Example Feat Progression
Level 4: War Caster or ASI to Charisma. If Charisma is odd (17, 19), fix it first. If Charisma is already even, War Caster is the immediate concentration insurance.
Level 8: Resilient (Con) or Fey Touched. After War Caster is secured, either the Constitution proficiency or the Fey Touched half-feat. Fey Touched is often preferred because the Charisma bump pushes the spell save DC while adding Misty Step.
Level 12: Metamagic Adept or Lucky. Metamagic Adept expands the Sorcerer's core engine. Lucky adds external reliability. Both are excellent final picks.
FAQ
Why are Sorcerers feat-hungry? Charisma ASI, concentration protection, Metamagic expansion, and utility spells all compete for three slots.
Is Metamagic Adept worth taking? Yes. Sorcerers uniquely integrate the extra sorcery points into Font of Magic.
War Caster vs Resilient (Con)? Both eventually. War Caster for melee-adjacent or Quickened builds; Resilient (Con) for survival-focused backline Sorcerers.
Why is Subtle Spell uniquely powerful? No visible or audible casting. Undetectable spellcasting is a Sorcerer exclusive.
Is Eldritch Adept worth it on a Sorcerer? Sometimes. Mask of Many Faces and Devil's Sight are the most compelling targets.
