This guide is part of the D&D 2024 Feat Guides hub, ranking feat picks for the Wizard.
Wizard feat priorities depend on the spells you prepare, the ability scores you want to improve, and the distance at which you expect to fight. War Caster and Resilient (Con) solve different concentration problems. The 2024 rules group feats as Origin, General, Fighting Style, and Epic Boon feats.
This guide ranks Wizard feat options, flags the ones that do not fit the class, and lays out a level-by-level progression.

Wizard Feat Priorities
- Choose concentration protection for the spells you expect to maintain - War Caster grants Advantage, while Resilient (Con) grants save proficiency.
- Use your background's Origin Feat intentionally - Guide grants Magic Initiate: Druid; Merchant and Wayfarer grant Lucky.
- Take Spell Sniper for an attack-roll spell plan - it adds 60 feet to eligible spell ranges and improves attacks through cover or in melee.
- Choose Telekinetic for Mage Hand and movement utility - its Bonus Action shove has a clear action-economy role.
- Consider Boon of Spell Recall at level 19 - it is the Wizard class's recommended Epic Boon.
Top Feats for Wizard
● War Caster
Increase Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma by 1, gain Advantage on Constitution saving throws to maintain Concentration, cast an eligible single-target spell when a creature leaves your reach, and perform Somatic components while holding weapons or a Shield. It is useful when concentration spells are central to your plan or when hands-occupied casting matters. Full breakdown in the General Feats guide.
● Resilient (Constitution)
Choose Constitution, increase it by 1, and gain Constitution saving throw proficiency. A Wizard begins with Intelligence and Wisdom saving throw proficiency, so it qualifies for this version of Resilient. It can combine with War Caster, but a Wizard does not need both before its Intelligence and prepared-spell plan are working.
● Spell Sniper
Increase Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma by 1. Your spell attack rolls ignore Half Cover and Three-Quarters Cover, do not have Disadvantage merely because an enemy is within 5 feet, and gain 60 feet of range for a spell with a range of at least 10 feet that requires an attack roll. It fits a Wizard that regularly makes attack rolls with Fire Bolt or other eligible spells; it does not improve saving-throw spells.
● Lucky (Origin Feat)
Granted by the Merchant or Wayfarer background. Lucky gives you Luck Points equal to your Proficiency Bonus after a Long Rest. You can spend one to give yourself Advantage on a D20 Test or impose Disadvantage on an attack roll against you. It can help with a concentration save or spell attack, but it is an Origin Feat, not an Ability Score Improvement-level pick. See the Origin Feats guide for the full background-to-feat table.
● Magic Initiate: Druid (Origin Feat)
Granted by the Guide background. Magic Initiate: Druid adds two Druid cantrips and one 1st-level Druid spell that is always prepared and can be cast once per Long Rest without a spell slot. It is the Origin Feat to consider when a specific Druid spell suits your plan better than Lucky's d20-test control.

Start Building● Telekinetic
Increase Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma by 1; learn Mage Hand with no Verbal or Somatic components; make the hand Invisible; and increase its range by 30 feet. As a Bonus Action, you can shove a creature you see within 30 feet by 5 feet on a failed Strength saving throw. It is a positioning and utility choice for turns when your action is already committed to a spell.
● Boon of Spell Recall (Epic Boon, level 19)
The Wizard class recommends this Epic Boon at level 19. Increase Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma by 1 (maximum 30). Whenever you cast a spell with a level 1-4 slot, roll 1d4; if the roll matches the slot's level, the slot is not expended. It is a source-backed choice for a Wizard's repeated low-level spell use. Full detail in the Epic Boons guide.
Feats to Avoid
Great Weapon Master / Sharpshooter / Polearm Master: These weapon feats need an ability-score prerequisite, suitable weapon, and an Attack-action plan. They are not default choices for a Wizard focused on spells.
Sentinel: Wizards do not want to be standing in melee range where Sentinel's benefits apply. The positioning it rewards works against a Wizard's usual survival plan.
Heavy Armor Master / Heavily Armored: These demand armor and Strength choices that do not usually support a Wizard's Intelligence, spell, and positioning priorities.
Example Feat Progression
Character creation: Choose a background for its Origin Feat. Guide grants Magic Initiate: Druid for extra spell access; Merchant or Wayfarer grants Lucky for d20-test control.
Level 4: Take War Caster when concentration and hands-occupied casting matter, or Resilient (Con) when Constitution save proficiency and a +1 Constitution fit the build. An Intelligence increase remains a sound alternative.
Level 8: Add the concentration option you still need, Spell Sniper for attack-roll spells, or an Intelligence increase.
Level 12: Spell Sniper for an attack-roll spell build, Telekinetic for Mage Hand and positioning utility, or another ability-score choice that supports your prepared spells.
Level 19: Boon of Spell Recall to extend your spell economy across a full adventuring day.
