This guide is part of the D&D 2024 Feat Guides hub, ranking feat picks for the Sorcerer.
Sorcerer feat priorities follow directly from two pressures: a limited number of prepared spells and a concentration plan that may include spells such as Haste or Greater Invisibility. Metamagic makes the timing and positioning of those spells matter. The 2024 rules group feats as Origin, General, Fighting Style, and Epic Boon feats; Sorcerers most often weigh Origin and General Feats against Charisma increases.
This guide ranks Sorcerer feat options, flags the ones that do not fit the class, and lays out a level-by-level progression.

Sorcerer Feat Priorities
- Concentration protection when your spell plan needs it — War Caster supports spells such as Haste and Greater Invisibility.
- A background that reinforces your build — Magic Initiate (Sage) adds prepared spell access without using a Sorcerer spell selection.
- Fey Touched for prepared utility and an escape tool — it adds Misty Step and a 1st-level spell without using a Sorcerer spell selection.
- Lucky for insurance on key rolls — protects concentration and clutch spell attacks, but comes from your background.
- Boon of Dimensional Travel at level 19 — the class-recommended post-spell repositioning option.
Top Feats for Sorcerer
● War Caster
Increase Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma by 1, gain Advantage on Constitution saving throws to maintain concentration, cast an eligible single-target spell in place of an Opportunity Attack, and perform Somatic components while holding weapons or a Shield. Use it when your prepared spell plan regularly uses concentration. Full breakdown in the General Feats guide.
● Elemental Adept
Increase Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma by 1 and choose Acid, Cold, Fire, Lightning, or Thunder. Spells you cast ignore Resistance to the chosen type, and damage dice that roll 1 for that type become 2. It is a focused choice for a Sorcerer whose prepared spells repeatedly use one of those damage types; it is not a universal replacement for War Caster.

Start Building● Fey Touched
Increase Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma by 1, choose a 1st-level Divination or Enchantment spell, and always have that spell and Misty Step prepared. Each can be cast once per Long Rest without a spell slot. This is added utility that does not use a Sorcerer prepared-spell selection.
● Spell Sniper
Increase Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma by 1, ignore Half Cover and Three-Quarters Cover with spell attack rolls, and add 60 feet to the range of an eligible attack-roll spell. It is a strong fit for a Sorcerer who regularly uses Fire Bolt or another ranged spell attack.
● Magic Initiate: Wizard (Origin Feat)
Granted by the Sage background. Magic Initiate adds two Wizard cantrips and one 1st-level Wizard spell that is always prepared and can be cast once per Long Rest without a spell slot. It adds spell access without using a Sorcerer prepared-spell selection or an Ability Score Increase choice. See the Origin Feats guide for the full background-to-feat table.
● Lucky (Origin Feat)
Granted by the Merchant or Wayfarer background. You gain a number of Luck Points equal to your Proficiency Bonus each Long Rest, which you can spend to gain Advantage on a D20 Test or impose Disadvantage on an attack roll against you. It is flexible insurance for a concentration save or a critical spell attack, but it comes from your background rather than an Ability Score Increase level.
● Boon of Dimensional Travel (Epic Boon, level 19)
The Sorcerer class recommends this Epic Boon at level 19. It increases an ability score by 1 (maximum 50) and lets you teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see immediately after taking the Attack or Magic action. It lets you reposition after casting without spending a separate action. Full detail in the Epic Boons guide.
Feats to Avoid
Great Weapon Master / Sharpshooter / Polearm Master: A Sorcerer's turns are spent on spells, not repeated weapon attacks. These feats assume a turn structure a Sorcerer does not use.
Heavy Armor Master / Heavily Armored: Sorcerers lack the Strength investment and armor proficiency progression to make heavy armor worthwhile.
Fighting Style Feats generally: Archery, Dueling, and the rest all assume a weapon-attack-focused turn. A Sorcerer's actions are spent on spells instead.
Example Feat Progression
Character creation: Choose a background for its Origin Feat. Sage grants Magic Initiate: Wizard; Merchant or Wayfarer grants Lucky.
Level 4: War Caster when concentration is central to your spell plan, or a Charisma increase when it is not. Haste becomes available at Sorcerer level 5, while Greater Invisibility becomes available at level 7.
Level 8: Take the option you deferred at level 4: War Caster for a concentration plan, or a Charisma increase for spell attacks and saving throw DCs.
Level 12: Fey Touched for Misty Step and prepared utility, or Elemental Adept when a recurring damage type makes the resistance bypass matter.
Level 19: Boon of Dimensional Travel, the Sorcerer class's recommended Epic Boon.
FAQ
What is the best feat for a Sorcerer in D&D 2024? War Caster for a concentration-focused build; Fey Touched, Spell Sniper, and Elemental Adept are strong when they match the spell plan.
War Caster or Resilient (Con)? Choose War Caster. A standard Sorcerer already has Constitution saving throw proficiency, so it cannot take Resilient for Constitution.
Is Lucky a General Feat? No, it is an Origin Feat from the Merchant or Wayfarer background.
Best background for a Sorcerer? Sage for Magic Initiate: Wizard; Merchant or Wayfarer for Lucky when flexible D20 Test insurance matters more.
Which Epic Boon is best at level 19? Boon of Dimensional Travel, the Sorcerer class's recommendation.
