This guide is part of the D&D 2024 Feat Guides hub, ranking feat picks for the Rogue.
Rogue feat priorities center on one question: does this feat outperform the Ability Score Increase it costs? Dexterity improves a Rogue's attack accuracy, Armor Class, Initiative, and Dexterity checks, so every General Feat is a trade-off. The 2024 rules group feats as Origin, General, Fighting Style, and Epic Boon feats; a Rogue can draw value from each category when it is available.
This guide ranks Rogue feat options, flags the ones that do not fit the class, and lays out a level-by-level progression.

Rogue Feat Priorities
- Alert from your background — strong for an Assassin who wants to act early, and useful for other Rogues who value initiative.
- The General Feat that matches your weapon — Skulker for ranged stealth, Dual Wielder for two-weapon builds, Sharpshooter for dedicated ranged builds.
- Weigh every pick against a Dexterity increase — it improves attack accuracy, Armor Class, Initiative, and Dexterity checks.
- Sentinel for a melee control build — it creates useful reactive pressure around nearby allies.
- The right Epic Boon at level 19 — Boon of the Night Spirit is the class recommendation for a Rogue who can work in Dim Light or Darkness.
Top Feats for Rogue
● Alert (Origin Feat)
Granted by the Criminal or Guard background. Alert adds your Proficiency Bonus to Initiative and lets you swap your Initiative with a willing ally. An Assassin has Advantage on Initiative and benefits when it attacks creatures that have not yet acted in the first combat round, so Alert remains a strong Origin Feat without being mandatory. See the Origin Feats guide for the full background-to-feat table.
● Skulker
Blindsight out to 10 feet, Advantage on a Stealth check made as part of the Hide action, and missing with a ranged attack while hidden does not reveal your position. Full breakdown in the General Feats guide.
● Dual Wielder
Dual Wielder increases Strength or Dexterity by 1. After attacking with a Light weapon, it lets you make the Light property's extra attack as a Bonus Action with a different melee weapon that lacks Two-Handed, and it lets you draw or stow two eligible weapons at once. It is a natural fit for a two-weapon Rogue, especially when the build can use the Nick Weapon Mastery property; it does not add a 2024 AC bonus.
● Sharpshooter
Increase Dexterity by 1, ignore Half Cover and Three-Quarters Cover with weapon ranged attacks, and ignore long-range disadvantage. It has no damage rider in 2024. Those passive benefits remove two recurring penalties for a dedicated ranged Rogue.
● Sentinel
Increase Strength or Dexterity by 1. Sentinel lets you make an Opportunity Attack when a creature within 5 feet Disengages or hits someone other than you, and it reduces a creature's Speed to 0 for the current turn when that Opportunity Attack hits. It is a build-specific choice for a melee Rogue who expects to stay beside allies and has a reliable Reaction to spend.
● Skilled (Origin Feat)
Granted by the Charlatan background. It adds proficiency in three skills or tools of your choice, which extends the Rogue's existing Expertise and skill coverage.
● Boon of the Night Spirit (Epic Boon, level 19)
The Rogue class recommends this Epic Boon at level 19. It increases an ability score by 1 (maximum 50), lets you become Invisible as a Bonus Action while in Dim Light or Darkness, and grants Resistance to all damage except Psychic and Radiant while you remain in those conditions. It is strongest in campaigns and party plans that can reliably create or use low-light terrain. Full detail in the Epic Boons guide.

Start BuildingFeats to Avoid
Great Weapon Master / Polearm Master: A Rogue needs a Finesse or Ranged weapon to apply Sneak Attack. Heavy-weapon and reach-weapon plans generally do not support that core damage plan, so these feats need a very specific multiclass or weapon concept to earn a slot.
Heavy Armor Master / Heavily Armored: Rogues rely on light armor and Dexterity for AC, and lack the Strength investment to make heavy armor worthwhile.
War Caster: A base Rogue has no spells to concentrate on. It only becomes relevant for an Arcane Trickster or a multiclass dip into a casting class.
Example Feat Progression
Character creation: Choose a background for its Origin Feat. Criminal or Guard grants Alert for an initiative-focused build; Charlatan grants Skilled for a skill-focused build.
Level 4: Skulker (ranged stealth builds) or Dual Wielder (two-weapon builds). Weigh either choice against a Dexterity increase, which improves attack accuracy, Armor Class, Initiative, and Dexterity checks.
Level 8: The General Feat you did not take at level 4, or a Dexterity increase if you are not yet at 20.
Level 12: Sentinel for a melee control build, or Sharpshooter for a dedicated ranged build.
Level 19: Boon of the Night Spirit when the campaign gives you regular access to Dim Light or Darkness; it is the Rogue class's recommended Epic Boon.
