Introduction
The Inventor feat list is where PF2e asks whether you are building a weapon engineer, armored hazard, construct handler, gadget specialist, or unstable-action menace. The class looks like a pile of cool mechanical toys, but the good feat plan is disciplined. Pick the innovation first, decide how many actions it consumes, then buy feats that make that plan repeatable.
The Inventor is not a spellcaster. It is an Intelligence martial with Crafting, Overdrive, an innovation, and limited unstable bursts. That means the best feats are rarely isolated. Megaton Strike is better if your weapon build has accuracy and runes. Construct feats are better if you can spare actions to command your companion. Gadget feats are better if your campaign rewards preparation and technical problem-solving.
This guide assumes Guns & Gears Remastered is allowed. For campaign access, firearms, gadgets, clockwork, and high-tech assumptions, read technology in campaigns.

Rating Legend
| Rating | Meaning |
|---|---|
| ● | Avoid unless your table is doing something very specific. |
| ● | Narrow, risky, or campaign-dependent. |
| ● | Good, reliable, or build-defining for a specific lane. |
| ● | Excellent. A default pick or a top-tier feat for its build. |
Prerequisite And Access Warnings
Inventor is an uncommon Guns & Gears Remastered class, so the first prerequisite is table permission. If the GM is running a low-technology campaign or restricting sourcebooks, settle access before building a feat plan. A legal character is more useful than a beautiful spreadsheet that gets rejected at session zero.
| Warning | What To Check | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Source access | Is Guns & Gears Remastered allowed? Are gadgets, firearms, clockwork tech, or uncommon options available? | Inventor depends on campaign assumptions more than most martials. |
| Innovation lock | Does the feat require armor, construct, or weapon innovation? | Collapse Armor, Soaring Armor, construct companion feats, and weapon payoff feats do not belong to every Inventor. |
| Chain gate | Does this feat require an earlier feat or class feature? | Construct progression and big weapon payoffs often assume you bought the previous rung. |
| Skill rank | Does the feat assume higher Crafting, a technical skill plan, or item knowledge? | Inventor's best utility collapses if Crafting is neglected. |
| Action cost | Does the feat add an action, reaction, command action, or unstable activity? | Inventor turns are already crowded by Overdrive, movement, Strike routines, gadgets, repairs, and command actions. |
| Item support | Does the feat need runes, gadgets, tools, consumables, or repair access? | Innovation is not a replacement for normal treasure progression. |
| GM texture | Does the campaign use hazards, downtime, vehicles, settlements, technology, or object interaction? | Utility and gadget feats need scenes where technical solutions matter. |
Prerequisite Checklist By Lane
Use this before writing a level-by-level build.
| Lane | Required Checks | Do Not Skip |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon Inventor | Weapon innovation, legal base weapon, rune plan, melee or ranged attribute support, action room for big Strikes | Weapons, weapon traits, and runes |
| Armor Inventor | Armor innovation, armor proficiency, Strength or Dexterity fit, defensive item plan, mobility goal | Armor, movement actions, and flanking and positioning |
| Construct Inventor | Construct innovation, Command action budget, repair plan, companion upgrade chain, positioning patience | Companions and familiars, Crafting, and three-action economy |
| Gadget Inventor | Gadget access, source permission, preparation time, tool access, campaign problems that items solve | Gadgets, adventuring gear, and hazards |
| Unstable Inventor | Unstable feat count, retune opportunities, encounter pacing, risk tolerance, backup turns | Combat, initiative, and GM encounter building |
An excellent rating still applies only to the build that can legally use the feat. It does not mean every Inventor should take it.
Fast Recommendations
| Build | Best Feat Priorities | Why |

| Weapon Inventor | Dual-Form Weapon, Megaton Strike, Gigaton Strike, Devastating Weaponry | Best straightforward damage path. Easy to understand, easy to support. |
| Armor Inventor | Explosive Leap, Collapse Armor, Electrify Armor, Soaring Armor, Negate Damage | Mobility and defense make the armor innovation more than a suit of numbers. |
| Construct Inventor | Prototype Companion, Advanced Construct Companion, Incredible Construct Companion, Paragon Companion, Lock On | Your companion needs feat support or it becomes a mascot with homework. |
| Unstable blaster | Searing Restoration, Megaton Strike, Megavolt, Deep Freeze, Unstable Redundancies | Strong burst turns, but do not spam unstable effects without a reason. |
| Gadget specialist | Gadget Specialist, Ubiquitous Gadgets, Contingency Gadgets | Best in campaigns with scouting, hazards, infiltration, and weird problems. |
| Support engineer | Overdrive Ally, Shared Overdrive, Helpful Tinkering, Lock On | Better in coordinated parties than solo-hero tables. |

Hot Take: The best Inventor feat often keeps your innovation doing its job every round. A powerful gadget or unstable burst is a poor trade when it delays the weapon, armor, or construct plan you built the character around.
Level 1-2 Feats
| Feat | Who Should Take It |
|---|---|
| ● Built-In Tools | Utility-heavy Inventors who want their gear problem solved elegantly. |
| ● Collapse Armor | Armor Inventors who need social, travel, and exploration flexibility. |
| ● Collapse Construct | Construct Inventors in travel-heavy games. Less important in pure dungeon crawls. |
| ● Explosive Leap | Armor and melee Inventors who need mobility. Great use of unstable when positioning matters. |
| ● Haphazard Repair | Construct and shield-heavy builds that expect things to break mid-fight. |
| ● Reverse Engineer | Campaigns with traps, constructs, enemy tech, and downtime. |
| ● Searing Restoration | One of the best practical unstable feats because emergency healing changes fights. |
| ● Tamper | Skillful control Inventors with melee access and tactical patience. |
| ● Variable Core | Inventors who expect resistance and weakness puzzles. |
Early Feat Notes
Searing Restoration is the early standout because PF2e fights punish downed allies and damaged frontliners quickly. Healing on an Intelligence martial is not cute utility; it is party tempo.
Explosive Leap is excellent if your build wants to be in the right square. That includes melee weapon Inventors, armor Inventors, and anyone who keeps getting one Stride short of the important target.
Reverse Engineer depends on campaign texture. In a GM Core-style campaign with hazards, traps, settlements, downtime, and enemy gear, it has real play. In an arena campaign, skip it.
Level 4-6 Feats
| Feat | Who Should Take It |
|---|---|
| ● Advanced Construct Companion | Mandatory if the companion is central to your build. |
| ● Clockwork Celerity | Mobility and action-tempo builds that can afford unstable timing. |
| ● Construct Shell | Construct Inventors who want defensive bodyguard play. |
| ● Dual-Form Weapon | The cleanest weapon innovation flexibility feat. |
| ● Gadget Specialist | Problem-solving campaigns, scouting parties, and tech-heavy games. |
| ● Megaton Strike | The iconic weapon-pressure feat. Stronger when accuracy and runes are handled. |
| ● Megavolt | Line-area pressure and electricity-themed burst builds. |
| ● Visual Fidelity | Better in exploration, stealth, and investigation-heavy campaigns than in simple brawls. |
Mid-Level Feat Notes
Megaton Strike is the feat most players imagine when they pick Inventor. It is strong, but it still obeys PF2e math. If your accuracy is poor, a giant miss is still a miss. Pair it with good weapons, runes, flanking, frightened, off-guard, or party buffs.
Advanced Construct Companion is not optional for serious Construct Inventors. Companions need scaling support. Otherwise the construct drifts from "second body" to "expensive liability."
Gadget Specialist should be rated by campaign, not vibes. It is excellent when the party solves locks, hazards, ambushes, infiltration, travel, and strange terrain. It is weaker if every problem is a creature in an empty room.
Level 8-12 Feats
| Feat | Who Should Take It |
|---|---|
| ● Contingency Gadgets | Gadget builds that want answers ready before trouble starts. |
| ● Deep Freeze | Control-focused unstable builds and cold-damage themes. |
| ● Electrify Armor | Armor Inventors who expect to be attacked in melee. |
| ● Gigaton Strike | The heavy payoff for Megaton Strike builds. |
| ● Helpful Tinkering | Support engineers and parties with weapon users who benefit from temporary technical boosts. |
| ● Incredible Construct Companion | Required scaling for construct-primary builds. |
| ● Lock On | Construct and ranged-party support builds. |
| ● Manifold Modifications | Inventors who know exactly which modification problem they are solving. |
| ● Overdrive Ally | Coordinated parties with strong martial allies. |
| ● Shared Overdrive | Party support Inventors who want Overdrive to matter beyond themselves. |
| ● Ubiquitous Gadgets | Gadget Specialist builds in varied campaigns. |
High-Mid Feat Notes
This is where Inventor builds separate. Weapon Inventors chase Gigaton Strike. Construct Inventors keep the companion current. Armor Inventors decide whether they are defensive, mobile, or retaliatory. Gadget Inventors either become brilliant problem-solvers or realize they should have bought more core combat support earlier.
Overdrive Ally and Shared Overdrive are better than they look if your party has Fighters, Rangers, Gunslingers, Monks, or other characters making frequent Strikes. They are worse in parties dominated by save spells and summons.
Level 14-20 Feats
| Feat | Who Should Take It |
|---|---|
| ● Devastating Weaponry | Late weapon innovation payoff. |
| ● Engine of Destruction | Construct and pressure builds that want the combat engine to keep scaling. |
| ● Full Automation | The thematic capstone for becoming the machine problem yourself. |
| ● Just the Thing! | Prepared technical campaigns and players who track gear carefully. |
| ● Negate Damage | A real defensive reason to stay armor-focused at high levels. |
| ● Paragon Companion | Required for construct-primary builds that want the companion to remain relevant. |
| ● Persistent Boost | Builds that want the offensive boost plan to stay consistent. |
| ● Soaring Armor | Flight changes encounter geometry. This is a major armor payoff. |
| ● Ubiquitous Overdrive | Excellent late support and action-economy value when Overdrive is central. |
| ● Unstable Redundancies | One of the best ways to make unstable feats feel less precious. |
| ● You Failed to Account For... This! | Peak Inventor nonsense. Strongest when the player is prepared and the GM rewards problem-solving. |
Late-Game Feat Notes
High-level Inventor feats are not universal picks. They are rewards for following a lane. Soaring Armor belongs to armor builds. Paragon Companion belongs to construct builds. Devastating Weaponry belongs to weapon builds. Unstable Redundancies belongs to characters who have enough unstable actions to justify the insurance.
That is good design. It also means random high-level shopping is a mistake.
Innovation Feat Lanes
Weapon Innovation ●
Weapon Inventor is the easiest feat plan to make powerful: improve the weapon, keep runes current, use Megaton Strike and Gigaton Strike, then take late damage payoffs. Read weapons, weapon traits, and runes before locking the build.
Best picks: Dual-Form Weapon, Megaton Strike, Gigaton Strike, Devastating Weaponry, Persistent Boost.
Armor Innovation ●
Armor Inventor is more about mobility, defense, and battlefield placement than raw damage. Explosive Leap, Collapse Armor, Electrify Armor, Soaring Armor, and Negate Damage give the build its identity. Pair this with the armor guide, flanking and positioning, and conditions.
Best picks: Explosive Leap, Collapse Armor, Electrify Armor, Soaring Armor, Negate Damage.
Construct Innovation ●
Construct Inventor is powerful when you plan for the action cost. You need companion upgrades, repair support, and tactical patience. A construct that never gets commanded is not a class feature; it is scenery with stats.
Best picks: Advanced Construct Companion, Incredible Construct Companion, Paragon Companion, Construct Shell, Lock On, Engine of Destruction.
Cross-links: companions and familiars, Crafting, and GM hazards.
Unstable Actions ●
Unstable feats are excellent when they change the fight. Searing Restoration saves allies. Megaton Strike spikes a key target. Explosive Leap fixes position. Deep Freeze and Megavolt pressure groups. Unstable Redundancies makes the whole package easier to use.
The mistake is treating unstable as a default rotation. The flat check matters. If the effect does not swing the encounter, save it.
Gadgets ●
Gadgets are the best lane for players who like preparation. They pair well with adventuring gear and tools, consumables, initiative and exploration, and GM campaign tools.
The trap is buying gadget feats because "Inventor should have gadgets." Take them because the campaign actually gives you problems gadgets solve.
Build-Specific Plans
Weapon Inventor
Prioritize Strength or Dexterity based on the weapon, keep Intelligence high enough for class features and Crafting, then buy the Strike-enhancing feats. You want a good weapon, runes, ways to make enemies off-guard, and party support. Weapon Inventor is the least weird Inventor, which is why it works.
Armor Inventor
Your feat plan should answer mobility first, defense second, damage third. The armor innovation is at its best when it lets you enter weird positions, survive enemy pressure, and ignore the movement problems other martials respect.
Construct Inventor
Budget actions before you fall in love with the companion. Commanding a construct competes with Overdrive, Strikes, movement, gadgets, shields, and unstable actions. If you want the construct to matter, take the companion chain and build turns around it.
Gadget Inventor
This build wants scouting, downtime, and a GM who uses varied obstacles. It pairs naturally with Thievery, Crafting, hazards, and social encounters.
Ability Scores, Skills, And Equipment
Intelligence is your key attribute, but Inventor still needs the physical stats required by the chosen innovation. Weapon Inventors need Strength or Dexterity. Armor Inventors need enough Constitution to survive being noticed. Construct Inventors need the patience to spend actions on something that is not themselves.
Important skills:
- Crafting - Mandatory identity skill.
- Arcana and Society - Good knowledge skills for technical campaigns.
- Thievery - Excellent for gadget and infiltration play.
- Athletics - Useful for melee Inventors and armor builds.
- Medicine - Pairs well with Searing Restoration and party support.
Important equipment:
- Runes for weapon and armor scaling.
- Repair tools and adventuring gear.
- Gadgets if your GM allows them.
- Consumables for technical problem-solving.
- Worn invested items once treasure scaling matters.
Common Mistakes
- Taking gadget feats without campaign support.
- Playing Construct Inventor without budgeting command actions.
- Using unstable actions for small value and then losing access before the real fight.
- Ignoring runes because the innovation feels special.
- Treating Intelligence as permission to dump every physical stat.
- Taking weapon damage feats before solving accuracy and positioning.
GM Notes
Inventor value depends heavily on GM Core campaign structure. Hazards, downtime, crafting access, settlements, treasure, and technical environments all make the class better. If the campaign never contains objects, traps, repairs, exploration problems, or item access decisions, Inventor loses a lot of its unique texture.
Monster Core also matters. Enemies with resistances, mobility, flight, reactions, or area pressure change whether weapon, armor, construct, gadget, or unstable feats are best. Inventor rewards players who ask what the campaign is actually about.
