What Khoravar brings to a party
Khoravar is an Eberron species for players who want a character ready to change jobs between adventuring days. You get Darkvision, Advantage on saving throws against the Charmed condition, a cantrip that can change after a Long Rest, and a skill or tool proficiency that can change on the same schedule.
That flexibility is the point, not an excuse to leave every choice until the last minute. A Khoravar works best when the group has a credible plan for tomorrow: a negotiation, a ruin, a difficult journey, or a night when being knocked Unconscious would be especially dangerous.

Khoravar species traits
Khoravar are Humanoids. Choose Medium or Small when you select the species, and your Speed is 30 feet. In Eberron, Khoravar communities grew from people of mixed human and elf descent in Khorvaire. The name means "children of Khorvaire," and many Khoravar prefer it to "half-elf."
Darkvision and Fey Ancestry
You have 60-foot Darkvision and Advantage on saving throws made to avoid or end the Charmed condition. Darkvision is dependable exploration coverage. Fey Ancestry is narrower, but it matters when an enemy or social encounter tries to take the character out of their own decisions.
Do not treat the latter as immunity. It helps only on the stated saving throws and does not erase every Charm-related complication at the table.
Fey Gift
You begin with the Friends cantrip. When you finish a Long Rest, you can replace it with a different cantrip from the Cleric, Druid, or Wizard spell list.
Choose a cantrip because it addresses a known problem, not because it looks generally useful. A utility choice can support an investigation or social scene; a combat choice can give a noncaster another action when the party expects danger. The swap happens after a Long Rest, so it is preparation, not a mid-scene answer.
Lethargy Resilience
When you fail a saving throw to avoid or end the Unconscious condition, you can succeed instead. After using the trait, you cannot use it again until you finish 1d4 Long Rests.
This is a reserve defense, not a broad damage shield. It does not prevent every way a character can fall unconscious, and it is most valuable when one failed saving throw would remove you at the worst possible moment. Keep the recharge in view before assuming it is available.
Skill Versatility
Gain proficiency in one skill or with one tool of your choice. Each Long Rest, you can replace it with a different skill or tool proficiency.
Choose the proficiency the party cannot otherwise cover tomorrow. Take a tool proficiency before a known crafting, repair, or forgery job; choose a skill before exploration, research, or a social meeting where the party lacks that strength. Coordinate with the table so the trait fills a gap instead of duplicating a specialist.
Hot Take: Khoravar gains the most from a campaign where players can make plans. If every adventuring day begins as a surprise, the Long Rest swaps remain useful but have less opportunity to address a known need.
Class fit for Khoravar
The species does not assign ability scores or require a spellcasting class. These are good fits because Eberron names them as common Khoravar paths or because they use the changing tools well.
Bard
Khoravar who see themselves as bridges between cultures often become bards, diplomats, mediators, or translators. A Bard already expects to solve social and exploration problems, so Skill Versatility can cover the one skill or tool the party needs for the current chapter of the campaign. Fey Gift adds a cantrip choice without deciding the Bard's core spell selection for them.
Druid
Some Khoravar explore a connection between the Material Plane and Thelanis, Eberron's Feywild. A Druid can make that concept practical without relying on an unsupported mechanical promise: use the cantrip and proficiency swaps to match the party's next expedition, and let the class choices determine the character's main role.
Warlock
A Khoravar Warlock with an Archfey patron is another source-supported Eberron concept. The Charisma-focused class can benefit from an adaptable utility slot and an extra skill or tool when a social or investigative day appears. Build around the patron and the party's job first; the species is a flexible layer, not the entire engine.

Start BuildingBackgrounds that support a Khoravar concept
Backgrounds establish ability-score options, skills, tools, equipment, and an Origin feat. Pick one that supports your class, then reserve Skill Versatility for the changing need rather than repeating a permanent proficiency.
Sage
Sage gives Constitution, Intelligence, and Wisdom ability-score options; Arcana and History; calligrapher's supplies; and Magic Initiate (Wizard). It fits a Khoravar researching Thelanis, cultural history, or a mystery with a magical paper trail. The permanent research skills make it easier to use Skill Versatility for the one task that matters this week.
Entertainer
Entertainer gives Strength, Dexterity, and Charisma options; Acrobatics and Performance; a musical instrument proficiency; and the Musician feat. It is a clear fit for a Bard or traveling mediator whose relationships begin in public spaces. Choose it for the character's actual work, not just because Khoravar are described as communicators.
Build the Background around the job
Khoravar does not need a special Background to work. A courtly negotiator, wilderness guide, scholar, or artificer apprentice can all use the same species traits. The useful question is simple: which permanent package supports the character every day, and which temporary proficiency will let them respond when the plan changes?
Build example: a Khoravar Bard with a changing party job
Concept: A mediator and performer who can switch one minor magical tool and one proficiency when the party learns what tomorrow requires.
Species: Khoravar
Background: Entertainer
Class: Bard
Before the first adventure: Start with a Fey Gift cantrip that fits the expected first job and pick a Skill Versatility proficiency the group does not already have. The Background's Performance and instrument proficiency are permanent, so do not spend the flexible choice on another version of the same role.
Before a social day: Keep the cantrip and proficiency focused on the scene's real obstacle. The character can be an impressive speaker without assuming that every conversation is a Charm saving throw or a cantrip problem.
Before exploration: Use Skill Versatility to cover an anticipated skill or tool gap. If the party knows little about the next location, choose a broadly useful option rather than chasing a hypothetical edge.
When a saving throw would cause Unconsciousness: Decide whether spending Lethargy Resilience protects the party's immediate plan. Once it is spent, track the 1d4-Long-Rest recharge instead of expecting it in every serious encounter.
This build keeps the Bard's spells, subclass, and feats open. Khoravar gives the character a repeatable preparation routine, but the class and Background still determine how that routine serves the party.
Choose Khoravar for prepared flexibility
Khoravar trades a single dramatic species feature for preparation tools. The cantrip and proficiency swaps matter when the table knows enough about the coming day to make an informed choice; Darkvision, Fey Ancestry, and Lethargy Resilience provide defenses when plans change. Confirm that Eberron character options are available, then choose the class and Background that give your adaptable character a clear job.
