Introduction

Dragonborn (Labyrinth Worldbook) are sturdy draconic humanoids with a scalable breath weapon, damage resistance tied to ancestry, darkvision, and short-range keensense. They are not as build-warping as Human or Avian Beastkin, but they give every class a reliable offensive button and a passive defensive identity.

The key decision is Draconic Ancestry. Your ancestry controls your damage type, your resistance, and the character's draconic identity. Pick it like a build choice, not just a color palette.

Lineage Traits

Rating Key

  • ● Red - Bad.
  • ● Orange - Situational.
  • ● Green - Good.
  • ● Blue - Fantastic.

Options from Labyrinth Worldbook are marked with (Labyrinth Worldbook).

Draconic Ancestry ●

Choose the dragon type that determines your damage type and resistance. Acid, cold, fire, lightning, poison, necrotic, and radiant all create different campaign profiles.

Breath Weapon ●

A bonus-action area attack with PB uses per long rest. The damage is modest at low levels but scales, and the action economy is good because it does not consume your main action.

Dragon Hide ●

Resistance to your ancestry's damage type is the most consistent Dragonborn feature. Fire and poison are common, necrotic is excellent in undead and Void campaigns, and radiant is rare but valuable when it matters.

Dragon Sight ●

Darkvision plus 10-foot keensense gives Dragonborn better close-range threat detection than most lineages.

Best Classes for Dragonborn

Fighter ●

Fighter appreciates a bonus-action area tool and durable resistance. Dragonborn also fits heavy-armor frontline play cleanly.

Paladin ●

Breath Weapon gives Paladin an area option, while resistance helps with frontline staying power.

Barbarian ●

Resistance can overlap with rage depending on damage type, but Breath Weapon gives a useful non-weapon option before or between rage turns.

Sorcerer ●

The theme is obvious, and Breath Weapon provides an extra area option that does not spend spell slots.

Cleric ●

Clerics like durable passive defenses and can use Breath Weapon on turns where their action is already spoken for.

Heritage Pairings

Fallen (Labyrinth Worldbook) ● One of the book's recommended Dragonborn heritages. Good for harsher, survivor-coded dragonborn.

Maze-Born (Labyrinth Worldbook) ● The most Labyrinth-forward pairing. It makes the Dragonborn feel native to strange worlds and impossible paths.

Anointed ● Excellent for radiant, gold, or yellow dragon concepts with divine or temple ties.

Fireforge ● Strong for smithing, clan, and fire-themed dragonborn.

Player's Guide 2 Heritage Options

Coterminous (Player's Guide 2) is a book-recommended fit for dragonborn tied to planar dragons, void dragons, or elemental boundaries.

Slayer remains a book-recommended fit for dragonborn raised to fight monsters, rivals, or draconic enemies.

Covenant (Player's Guide 2) supports ancestral oaths, dragon cults, and sworn draconic houses.

Hot Takes

Hot Take: Dragonborn (Labyrinth Worldbook) lives or dies by the resistance choice. Breath Weapon is visible, but Dragon Hide is the trait that quietly wins encounters across a campaign.

Hot Take: Void and yellow dragon ancestries are more interesting than they look. Necrotic and radiant put the lineage directly into Labyrinth's cosmology instead of just importing a familiar fantasy archetype.

Final Notes

Dragonborn (Labyrinth Worldbook) is a clean, durable, class-flexible lineage. Pick it when you want a reliable resistance, a scalable bonus-action area option, and a strong draconic identity without needing a complicated build engine.

For the full comparison across every lineage, use the Tales of the Valiant Lineage Guide. Pair Dragonborn with the Heritage Guide to finish your character's origin.
