## The Short Answer

**A Nomad gives the crew mobility with a family behind it.** Moto improves the Nomad's vehicle competence and grants access to the Family Motorpool, but the vehicles are a relationship, not disposable personal equipment. Use them to make routes, cargo, escape plans, and family obligations central to the job.

## Hot Take

The best Nomad vehicle is the one that makes the crew argue about where to go next.

Do not choose a ride only for combat statistics. Choose one that creates a useful job question: can it carry the witness, cross the bad district, hide the cargo, reach the market before it closes, or get everyone home after the deal goes loud? Mobility becomes a Role Ability when it changes the plan.

## Moto Is Permission And Competence

The Core Rulebook gives Moto two linked functions: the Nomad adds the Role Ability to relevant driving, piloting, and vehicle-tech checks, and gains access to stock vehicles or upgrades through the Family Motorpool as Moto advances. It also limits what the Nomad can have out at a time and sets out the Family process for swapping or repairing vehicles.

| Moto element | What it changes | Good crew question |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Vehicle familiarity | The Nomad can take the hard driving or technical problem seriously. | What route is possible only because the Nomad can handle it? |
| Family Motorpool | The crew can plan around a vehicle that serves a job. | What does the Family expect the crew to do with this trust? |
| Upgrades | The vehicle can support a focused mission need. | Does this solve the next job, or create more attention than it is worth? |
| Repair and swapping | Damage and changing plans have time, cost, and family consequences. | Can the crew afford to wait, pay, or ask for another favor? |

Keep the exact ranks, vehicle list, upgrade rules, and repair costs in the Core Rulebook.

## Treat The Vehicle As A Crew Resource

Use the [Cyberpunk RED Gear Guide](/articles/cyberpunk-red/gear-guides) to choose vehicles by the job rather than by prestige. Establish its purpose before the session.

| Vehicle job | What it gives the crew | What it risks |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Getaway | An exit route and a mobile fallback. | A pursuit, blocked route, or visible plate. |
| Hauling | Space for cargo, people, or equipment. | Slow movement, inspection, or a difficult handoff. |
| Travel | Access to a distant district or Outskirts job. | Fuel, weather, breakdowns, and time pressure. |
| Mobile workspace | A place to repair, plan, hide, or treat someone. | Theft, surveillance, and the need to keep it safe. |

The Nomad chooses how the vehicle is used. The entire crew should help decide what it carries, where it goes, and what is worth risking to keep it intact.

## Put Family On The Map

The Family Motorpool means the Nomad is connected to people beyond the current block. Give that relationship practical shape.

1. Who arranged access to this vehicle?
2. What does the Family need moved, protected, or repaired next?
3. Which route, market, or community recognizes the vehicle?
4. Who would be embarrassed if the crew returns it damaged or misused?
5. What line will the Nomad not cross, even for a profitable job?

Family should provide real support and real stakes. A call can arrange a swap, warn the crew about a route, or ask for a favor. It should not erase every travel problem.

## Make Every Trip A Choice

Before a vehicle scene, tell the players what each route costs. A fast road may be watched. A quiet road may flood. A market shortcut may require a favor. A corporate route may demand credentials. The Nomad can make the options actionable rather than arbitrary.

Other Roles can keep the trip social and tactical: a Fixer finds the fuel or buyer, a Netrunner checks a gate, a Tech keeps the vehicle working, a Solo protects the stop, and a Media or Exec recognizes who will care about the route. The Nomad turns distance into a crew problem everyone can solve.
